Although it costs quite a bit (as of November 2001), it is a fun little castle for the kids. The best thing is not just that it is electronic (sounds and movement) but that it connects to other (smaller/less costly) micro playsets (Hagrid's Hut, Hogwarts' Express and Forbidden Corridor thus far) and electrically powers their movement mechanisms as well. It looks like there is room for one more connection/expansion (Quidditch Field maybe?) This playset reminds me of micro-machines playsets.Make sure you don't give to small children, it has lots of easy to lose (or choke on) pieces.

Dear Mr. Potter,We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry... This beautiful Playset captures the magic of J.K. Rowlings hit novel(s) of Harry Potter. This playset, in my opinion, looks more like Hogwarts than the lego set. It has the green rooftops, towers, turrets, and windows all over the castle. It's architechture is very well. Wow! It is sitting atop a small green cliff. It opens up to 11 wonderful rooms with magical sounds(3 AA batteries) and comes with 6 figures: Mountain Troll It is very cool, and yet very small. I even love the secret Mirror of Erised room in the back, and the secret storage compartment tray. This is so awesome to look at. It would be better if it had more figures like maybe a Dumbledore or Quirrell figure, but still it's ok. It has connections for the Platform 9 3/4, Hagrid's Hut, Forbidden Corridor, and Whomping Willow playset. With these 4 extra playsets, it makes this wonderful toy a much more magical experience for any age Harry Potter fanatic! It really does capture the magic of Harry Potter better than the lego sets. By the way, it was very difficult to take out the set out of it's packaged box! Took over an hour to safely get it out!

Everything works exactly as it shows on the box. Music plays when the castle opens as well as for the "screaming" book, the "levitating" feather, Hedwig the owl as he "flys" into the room, the Mountain Troll in the girl's bathroom, and for Harry when he becomes "invisible". Music also plays as harry circles through the Great Hall where food (which looks like the main course and dessert) appears and disappears leaving empty plates and then an empty table. There is a secret storage bin in the back of the school to store the figurines, which include Harry, Invisible Harry, Ron, Hermione, Snape and a Mountain Troll. It also comes with a suit of armor that "watches" Hedwig fly into the room and three tables full of food that you can place in the Great Hall. The back of the school also has a neat little fold-down drawbridge door which reveals The Mirror of Erised room. There is also a "pop-up" Owlry which reveals a "hidden corridor". Things I didn't like (only minor details because I'm picky): the "orange" food side of the table sometimes doesn't flip over flatly. Concerning the two sections that open at the bottom front of the school: Snapes classroom is difficult to open (it's in there very tight), and Professor Flitwick's classroom doesn't close tight enough. Also, it's "kind-of" difficult to get the "levitating" feather to make its' sound. I have to push it snugly towards the right to get its' sound going (there are tiny sound "buttons" inside of the hinges that make the sounds for the side compartments) and being the broom handle is made of the bendable-type plastic, I have to make sure I grab the bottom of the broom to do it. All in all, though, I found the Hogwart's School Deluxe Micro Playset to be a great toy and well worth the money. The detail is amazing! It allows my son to reinact just about every scene of the original Harry Potter movie. We have two of the four available sets that attach to the school and "come to life" when the school is turned on (Hagrid's Hut and the Whomping Willow). I plan on ordering the Forbidden Corridor and the Platorm 9 3/4 as soon as they are in stock, and hope to get the Weasley House which is supposed to be available in the Fall of 2002. As for the packaging? We had no troubles whatsoever. We just took our time and untwisted or snipped the connectors from the inside cardboard packaging to remove the school, and gently pushed from the bottom of the plastic packaging which held the characters to remove them. It took us only about 15 minutes.

Little daughter asked for THIS for her 4th birthday. Can't tell you how hesitant we were due to the size of the pieces, but she loved the first movie beyond words and it was the ONLY thing she wanted as her present. Did purchase with the intent it would be adult 'monitored play' and in her case we were proved she could be trusted. Monitoring became unnecessary, as she enjoys it so much and wouldn't even consider putting in her mouth or chewing on one of her precious pieces! You will have to judge your child accordingly because they do of course put an age on the box for a reason. The quality of the plastic is outstanding and they have truly captured the details from the books and movie in this toy. Forbidden Corridor playset is a great addition. Topping my daughters Christmas list is the new Weasley House and Whomping Willow Playsets and the original Platform 9 3/4 Train playset.

I gave this to my daughter for her 7th birthday. If your child likes mini playsets to pretend with , he or she will love this. It may be a little pricey, but it is better than other playsets, too. The electronic sound and moving Harry help make it a fun toy for young Harry Potter fans.

Being a bit older than the usual Harry Potter fan, I love this playset! I know how to handle the pieces which are also MICRO. I cannot see kids younger than 10 years being careful and responsible for all the moving parts, pieces and add-ons. I may be wrong, but what parent wants to spend (...) on something their child may ruin quickly. ((...) includes all the add-ons)

My daughter has been playing with her Harry Potter Castle for almost a year. She absolutely loves it. She can spend hours alone or with a friend creating and using her imagination. We have just purchased additional sections for her, The Whooping Willow Tree and Hagrids house.

I got my Hogwarts Castle today and it is so cool! There are eleven rooms which are the owlery, the girls bathroom (where Ron fights the Troll), the Gryffindor Common Room, a secret corridor, the Great Hall, Professer Snape's classroom, Professor Flitwick's classroom, two other classrooms, a room with a suit of armor and the library. And you get six figures: Harry, Ron, Hermione, Invisible Harry, Professor Snape, and a mountain troll. I'd reccomend this to really big Harry Potter fans. If you do get this be sure to get the other sets that go with it such as the Forbidden Corridor, the Whomping Willow, Hagrid's Hut, Platform nine and three quarters...

This toy was a hit with my 6 year old son. However, the pieces are a little difficult to keep up with. It doesn't come with ANY instructions, so you must actually help your child discover all the hidden nooks and crannies. Once all is discovered, your child can play (quietly) alone or with others with this toy. It is great because it takes up very little room, and is easily moblie.

Well, I wanted a Hogwarts school for my Harry Potter Collection, and I thought about the lego hogwarts, but it doesn't look like Hogwarts, and is too ... . Then this micro playset caught my eye. Sure it is pricey, but cheaper than the lego Hogwarts. I fell in love with this electronic playset and the smaller playsets that connect to it(Hagrid's Hut, Forrbidden Corridor, and Platform 9 3/4). The thing that is cool about the playset, is that the sounds and Harry walking around the great hall(needs 3 AA batteries) make this a magical collectable. There are small parts that can easily be lost, but there is a storage tray in back of the castle. The archetecture of the castle is great: brick wall to beautiful rooftops and turrets and towers! The castle is a great sight. The only thing I hated about this castle was it's packaging when first opened! It took almost an hour to get it out. It had all those wire things that twist and plasic ropes to hold it, and it took such an effort to take it out without breaking it! Whew! Well, at least it was nice and safely secure in it's box! But what a nightmare! It destroyed my scissors cutting the wire. I even had to tear up the box it was tied to, just to get to wires that needed to be removed. Sure I could've twisted them open, but it was hard to reach because they were unreachable. If that wasn't enough, I had to open the other three mini playsets that day too! Still, I love this castle!
