A survey of all pottery found in excavations in Iceland prior to the end of 1991, in the collections of the National Museum and the Arbaer Museum in Reykjavik. The main aims of the study were to gain an overview of types of pottery used in Iceland from the time of the settlement, to create a typology for use in future studies, to investigate changes in the use of pottery over time and differences between areas, and, in general, to contribute to the research already carried out into patterns of distribution in Northern Europe.
