I have twin 3-year old boys. One of them was having trouble making the connection between the need to go potty and the toilet itself. So, we decided to try potty patrol. We reiterated to him that as soon as the alarm went off--he needed to run into the bathroom and call for us to help and we would then sit him on the toilet and try and get him to finish going potty. This process of alarm going off---to bathroom---to toilet soon triggered a connection for him between going potty and the toilet. The Potty Patrol system was instrumental in making that connection and leading him to be potty trained---thank goodness! Highly recommend this product.

Wow! I kept hearing how hard it was to potty train boys and after three girls I was ready for a long drawn out process. I heard about this product and it made total sense to me that my kid should make the connection between cause and effect. I mean even pavlovs dogs figured that out right? So anyway, I put the diaper and alarm on and followed the suggestion in the pamphlet to play alongside my son while we waited for the alarm to sound. It was actually quite a while; which proved he was ready because he could actually hold it for some time. After playing for a while in his room and then in the family room we eventually headed outside to the swing. I had almost forgotten about the alarm and was just talking to him when the alarm went off and caught us both off guard. I got excited, he got excited, and we rushed into the bathroom. I guess the alarm startled him enough to have him stop peeing because after we rushed him inside he actually finished peeing in the toilet. I could hardly believe it! I laughed, he laughed, we celebrated with a spongebob sticker on a little chart I downloaded and then we put on another diaper and went back to playing. It was fun. It took a normally painful process and turned it into a positive experience. I was so surprised that after 5 or 6 of the 24 diapers in the kit he basically had it. What? One day you say? Well I wouldn't believe it if it didn't happen to me. You know what they say online...YMMV (your mileage may vary) but that's what happened for us. It quickly taught him what success looked like and we went into some batman underwear he had picked out for himself. We still had a few mishaps over the next couple of weeks and he's in a pullup type diaper at night but we were basically there.Read more ›

I love this product! I wish I would've ordered this first before all the other products I ordered. These are awesome! If your child goes through these really fast, they might not be ready to potty train. This is the one parents!

This system made potty training my 5th child a breeze. I have tried many other methods and this was the most straight forward and easy. My child thought it was fun and was excited to wear the "special diapers" which added to the ease. We didn't even need a refill kit. I wish Potty patrol had been around for my others! As far as the size of the alarm, I dont know what the other reviewer was talking about, I called the company and they say the alarm size meets UL safety standards for children's items. I can't see how any child could even fit it in his mouth! Totally recommend it.

I was really excited to try these! I thought they sounded like an awesome idea.

They DO work. they function exactly how they are designed to. And I do think they create an association between the urge to go and the potty.

Things I liked:

The music is not too loud
It plays for a decent amount of time, so if you're not right there-you don't miss it.
I like that you can buy refills (althought we are not purchasing refills)
It lets ME know instantly that he(or she) went, and not just the child.

I think this item is useful. But not a "must have". I think potty training could be just as effective with just training pants.

Things I did not like:

The sensor/music box seems to be in an unconvenient place. It sat right where the waste band of my LO's pants sits. at times was uncomfortable for my son.
The sensor was easily removed so my son, in the beginning kept removing the sensor. and at one time it was misplaced for a few hours until I found it under the couch.
You go through diapers like there's no tomorrow-because when they're wet, they're done.
They should be designed more like pull ups rather than diapers. It makes it more difficult for removing them quickly to get your child on the potty, because your essentially removing a diaper. (which I guess they are labeled "diaper")

Novel Idea. But I could take it or leave it. Definitely not a "must have" for potty training.

Honestly, I love this product for many reasons:
* brilliant and simple idea
* much less expensive than other alarm systems I researched, most of which only worked for solving bed-wetting problems and not potty training
* high quality
* offers a gentle, positive method of potty training: we just sing the song, take the diaper off immediately and head for the potty
* customer service of the company is outstanding... I have 2 children with special needs using this product, and just like they do glasses and hearing aids, they are constantly taking off the radio and tossing it. Just a few weeks after we started using the diapers and were actually seeing some success (i.e. not all the urine would go in the diaper, they'd actually "stop" the flow and finish in the potty!"), both kids have hidden their radios somewhere in the house and they are nowhere to be found. I called the toll free number at Potty Patrol and they were kind enough to replace them free of charge--now that's what I call EXCELLENT customer service.

The only reason I wouldn't give this product 6 stars (LOL) is that when I purchased our first pack, even though the box clearly says diapers, for some reason, I was picturing a pull-up style diaper rather than the tab diapers. This was not the company's fault; it's just my oversight. We had been using pull-up style diapers for so long without success, but appreciated the ease of use that they afford for quick access to the potty and the the kids learning to pull them up and down independently... It's just a little less convenient to go back to the tab-style diapers that these are.

Anyway, we will continue using them, and are even using this system to write into our kids' special education IEPs to increase toileting independence at school.
