5.0 out of 5 stars Music to play a box to, April 25, 2000
By
This review is from: Pottymouth (Audio CD)
Not only is this a great album, it's fun to play a box to it. Take me and my friend, for example. We spent many a day listening to this album and relating to its anger and heartbreak. Then, we started a band that consisted of a box and covered P.R.D.C.T. Yeah, it was terrible (and we were called "Lactose Intolerant"--ummm...) but the point is we were inspired. It created memories for us, regardless of how ear-splitting our excuse for a band was. If that isn't the best thing you can say for a great punk rock album, I don't know what is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fifteen with skinned knees..., November 16, 2005
This review is from: Pottymouth (Audio CD)
This is one of those records that really speaks for you when you are a teenaged girl with no interest in ever going home to your parents, and with the desire to stay out with your tough girl friends and boys in Dead Kennedy t-shirts. This record sits between your Bikini Kill and your Go-Go's. This is juvenile and juicy and pissed off. I'm 26 now, but Bratmobile still reminds me of life when I didn't care about anything but marinating in my girlishness and self-proclaimed indestructibility.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool Schmool, August 27, 2004

This review is from: Pottymouth (Audio CD)
One of my all-time favorites. For those interested in the DC-Olympia riot grrrl sound and for those who enjoy The Slits, X-Ray Spex, Bikini Kill, Beat Happening. Funny, catchy, silly, and bratty, of course. Good for bass lines if you're starting to learn how to play.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Madonna in her underwear, you should be in too...", November 26, 2004
This review is from: Pottymouth (Audio CD)
Bratmobile's music sounds like The Go Go's meets Bikini Kill meets X-Ray Spex. Bratmobile's lyrics are sure to crack a smile on your face, even if you're an old conservative. Their take on relationships, love, gender, race, and the punk scene (of the early '90s) is charming, sarcastic, and full of wit. It's something that seperates them from their snarling peers of the day like Bikini Kill and Heavens To Betsy. Finally, some rock with some humor. My favorite songs are Cherry Bomb (this was originally done by The Runaways), Throway, P.R.D.C.T., Some Special, F*ck Yr Fans, Panik, Richard, Cool Schmool, Juswanna, and Queenie. Heck, I love 'em all. Liz Phair and Alanis Morissette may have impressed music reviewers in the '90s but bands like Bratmobile were around before these artists even cracked the charts. Riot Grrrl bands and female-fronted grunge bands have been overlooked and when people think about women in '90s rock, they only think about the boring Lilth Fair. How incorrect this is, as women were rocking long before then. And doing it better.

5.0 out of 5 stars PUNK ROCK DREAM COME TRUE!, September 28, 2003
This review is from: Pottymouth (Audio CD)
Yes, it's true: this is the greatest punk rock disc ever made. Bratmobile's minimal arrangement (guitar, drums, vocals) is short, sharp & shocked, and this sparity gives the music a spontaneous, hurried quality that never fades. The songs are all lively garage punk, but Bratmobile's giddy cat-hissing is simply unique. Fast, loud, obscene; harsh, coy, earnest; sweet, sparkly, & snotty: Bratmobile was all these things and more. This full-length 1993 CD includes the complete debut LP plus several non-LP tracks. Highly recommended to all: it's punk rock so charming even Grandma will be swearing along!

5.0 out of 5 stars Righteous, January 13, 2001
This review is from: Pottymouth (Audio CD)
Imagine punk rock spliced with girl groups and the beach boys and you get bratmobile. What started out as a college project amongst friends, turned into one of the greatest grrrl bands around. Raw, fast and original, it is both a shame these women remain comparatively unsuing and a blessing (so they do not become victims of the media feeding frenzy)

Even though it is not an explict clairon call to feminist arms (like Bikini Kill or Julie Ruin) there is enough stuff included to provide a refreshing antidote to the returing macho posturing of the mainstream airwaves. That this was accomplished with the band members living in different parts of the country is a testament to their undying dedication and support of each other. This attitude translates into respect and effort for the fans.

Like everything else the Olympia- based Kill Rock Stars label puts out, the entire CD is listenable and there is not the uneven quality that is so common in todays world. Because Rock stations are increasingly using a top 40 format when dealing with "alternative bands" the composition quality of the disc is a real rarity in disguise. It is so good, I can't think of a single song that I do not hate in this collection, although I problaly would not play "I just wanna..."around my grandparents or other more reserved individuals.

Great CD, makes me want to go out and catch a couple of waves!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Girls En la garage, July 11, 2002
By
This review is from: Pottymouth (Audio CD)
Pottymouth has the making of a lo-fi grunge classic.the songs are very upbeat and the voices are young, immature. When it comes to comparison of style,I say bratmobile sounds like a mix of old SonicYouth &theBreeders. I being a long time fan of riot girlee music,I really dig this. The most slam'N song here is F**Yer Fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Three-Chord Revolution's Anthem, May 6, 2000
By
This review is from: Pottymouth (Audio CD)
This isn't an album, this is a historical document. I think it should be required listening for all those frat bois making generic rock. The first time I heard this I realized I had a voice and was capable of rocking. This is punkrockpunkrockpunkrock at its punk rockiest. These girls dont have to wait at the back of shows and avoid the moshpit...they're on stage where they belong. The music is great, too.

If you don't see this as a musical breakthrough, as well as something valid to pave the way for me and my girlfriends, then you don't know JACK about music and its link with rebellion!
