`Poucher has been a standard reference since it was first published in 1923. It is indeed welcome to have an updated version.' Chemical Monographs Review

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfumer's Bible, January 19, 2010

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Poucher's Perfumes, Cosmetics and Soaps: Volume 2 The Production, Manufacture and Application of Perfumes (Population and Community Biology (Chapman & Hall)) (Hardcover)
This book is what is called the Perfumer's Bible.
The first edition was from 1923, a time when synthetics were limited in number. It is a wonderful read for an interested amateur as myself. I learned almost everything that I know about perfume making from him. W.A.Poucher was chief perfumist with Yardley for over 30 years.
But be aware that this 9th editon is the original writing by W.A. Poucher. The 10th edition is not written by him. His title and name is used to make an up-to-date edition with no comparison to the original.

If it were possible to delve into the past at a sufficiently remote period, it would probably be found that the romance of perfumery had its beginning with the Atlantians who flourished at a period conjectured to antedate the Christian Era by about 23,000 years. Read the first page
