Book Description

"This is a gorgeous book, just beautiful storytelling, and one of my favorites this year. I’m crossing my fingers for a sequel. Thank you Debra Anastasia, you blew my mind, made my heart pound, brought tears to my eyes, and made me laugh… a lot!"" ~ Rhonda from Sam, Elena, and Rhonda's Awesomeness Book Review Blog 5+ AMAZING STARS!!

"There is plenty of action, suspense, romance and hilarity to be found in Poughkeepsie. Debra Anastasia has outdone herself with her latest novel and as long as she keeps writing like this I will keep reading." ~ Nicole at All I Ever Read Book Review Blog

"All of Anastasia’s characters are both horribly broken and unbelievably strong in their own way. Each one is a different side of the same coin, a paradox. It is the beautiful paradox of good and evil, right and wrong, compassion and revenge that make this one of my favorite books of the year." ~ Autumn at Open Book Society

"I'm telling you Debra Anastasia has become one of my favourite indie authors of 2011, and I know that whatever else she releases in the New Year, will be just as good, just as funny and just as sexy as Crushed Seraphim and Poughkeepsie." ~ Jessica at Book Passion for Life

"This book has the perfect combination of drama and action. Poughkeepsie was written to perfection." ~ Wanda at Good Choice Reading

He counts her smiles every day and night at the train station. And morning and evening, the beautiful commuter acknowledges him—just like she does everyone else on the platform. But Blake Hartt is not like the others . . . he’s homeless. Memories of a broken childhood have robbed him of peace and twisted delusions into his soul. He stays secluded from the sun, sure the world would run from him in the harsh light of day.

Each day, Livia McHugh smiles politely and acknowledges her fellow commuters as she waits for the train to the city. She dismisses this kindness as nothing special, just like her. She’s the same as a million other girls—certainly no one to be cherished. But special or not, she smiles every day, never imagining that someone would rely on the simple gesture as if it were air to breathe.

When the moment comes that Livia must do more than smile, without hesitation she steps into the fray to defend the homeless man. And she's surprised to discover an inexplicable connection with her new friend. After danger subsides, their smiles become conversation. Their words usher in a friendship, which awakens something in each of them. But it’s not long before their bond must prove its strength. Entanglements from the past challenge both their love and their lives.
Blake’s heart beats for Livia’s, even if her hands have to keep its rhythm. Love is patient. Love is kind. Love never fails. Love never fails, right?

In an interwoven tale of unlikely loves and relationships forged by fire, Debra Anastasia takes readers into the darkest corners of human existence, only to show them the radiant power of pure adoration and true sacrifice. Complicated families and confused souls find their way to light in this novel, which manages to be racy, profane, funny, and reverent all at once.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical and Mysterious--Loved it! January 8, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Oh, where do I start?! I've read Poughkeepsie 5 times straight through. On the last read, I told myself I would take my time and find the secret behind why I loved this book so much. Nope, got sucked right back into it and couldn't put it down. I loved it so much I bought five copies for Christmas presents...something I never do. No one in my fams really reads like I do, but I gave it to them anyways. I came away from this book feeling like I wanted to be a better person and I wanted to share that with everyone else.

Now, with all my fan girl stuff over...lol...I do want to tell you that I didn't think Poughkeepsie was perfect. Technically there were a few proofs that could have been corrected, but that's with almost every book nowadays, including my own, so I don't fault for that. My bestie and I have had a grand time picking this book apart technically and discovering that Ms. Anastasia has managed to break a few of the rules that we've been told time and again not to do... and guess what... it didn't distract us from the story.

All three couples in this book are rich, vibrant people. I've teased that they felt like real people even. I'm not joking. The magic in this book is in the normal...the subtle. It's the chemistry between the two sisters when their dad is out of the room. It's the serious love that these three men share for each other when no one else would love them. It's the vomit behind the bushes and the offer of mouthwash after...I know it's gross, but it's my fave moment in the book. Hey, it's me, of course I'm going to love the vomit scene.

But, if you're following along you'll get the big picture. It's not because Ms. Anastasia has over the top language in her dialogue--even though she does. It's not because Poughkeepsie is the perfect book. No, the magic in this book is in between the lines on the page. I'm still searching for all the mysteries and I have no idea how many more times I'll read this story, but I promise you that I learn something with each read. That's a classic in the making, folks. If you haven't bought it, I'd definitely recommend it.

about this book.
This was a beautiful, touching, humorous and a sometimes heartbreaking book.
I thought this book was going to be a depressing and put off reading it for a while. So glad I finally picked it up.
the character of Blake was so well written and his unfolding relationship with Livia is just beautiful.
I'm not good at reviews and can't do justice to this book with my words.
I loved all the characters in this book. Beckett and Kyle were just wonderful and both had me chuckling out loud at times.
The relationship between Cole, Beckett and Blake was so well done and though each went their own ways, they had a deep love for each other that really came through in the writing.
I know when a book has been something out of the ordinary when I am still thinking about it long after turning the last page and this book definitely falls into that category.
I've put a few people onto this book and none have been disappointed.
This is a rare gem of a book. So go and read, devour and enjoy

More About the Author

Debra Anastasia is busy, just like every other mom. There's dinner, the dogs, the kids, and their homework. The laundry pile turns into a big, heaping monster. When the clothes finally make it into the washer, it gets unbalanced and puts on an elaborate show before it cuts out. This crazy job that never ends is her first love and her crowning achievement.

Her writing started a decent handful of years ago when along with the dogs, cat, kids, and husband, the voices of characters started whispering stories in Debra's ear. Insomnia was the gateway for the plots that wouldn't give up, wouldn't let go. In the shower, a twist would take hold and--dripping and frenzied--she'd find somewhere, anywhere to write it down.

Debra grew up in New York and got a bachelor's degree in political science at SUNY New Paltz. At the start of her marriage, she moved to southern Maryland with her husband. She still doesn't trust crabs and all their legs, though everyone else in her family thinks they're delicious. Her favorite hobbies include knitting, painting furniture and wall murals, and slapping clowns.

Omnific Publishing published her debut novel, Crushed Seraphim, and the sequel to angel Emma's adventures, Bittersweet Seraphim. She's working on Return to Poughkeepsie right now to be released in late 2013. You can visit her website at DebraAnastasia.com and find her on twitter @Debra_Anastasia.

Poughkeepsie Sequel
Hell yeah! I love this book so much. I was a fan way back when... I also look forward to many other books, I hope.

This story has all the necessary things to make a romance feel real. Emotions and heart are at the top of the list.
