The only redeeming factor as I see it, is that the thing CAN be filled with a purchased twine you can also buy from Amazon. Two-hundred feet for only a few bucks beats the heck out of paying eight to ten dollars for one of these refills. When the one that came with my Weed Eater literally ran out before finishing my yard ONCE, I was concerned; but figured, okay, maybe it's just that they short you on the one that comes with the product. After installing the second one, it DID last longer... it ran out toward the end of its SECOND use.

By the THIRD one, I had learned NOT to try to do a very tight trim all around my yard, which while not large, is not exactly small when you consider all the edging AND trimming I must do. I figure this one ALMOST lasted through three uses, but that still isn't enough for Louisiana lawns. I can't afford to purchase about fifteen to twenty of these things each growing season, so I bought the 200 feet for less than the cost of one of these things and hope the cartridges have enough life in them to where I need to replace IT once or twice a summer.

The only reason it didn't get TWO is the fact that you CAN refill it with separate twine (make sure it's .065 and the Weed Eater brand is very fairly priced.) Another drawback to these autofeed reels is that they sometimes get cut too short--and it seems you're not getting anything done. At least two or three times a job, I have to turn the thing off, and literally pull the twine back out to where it at least reaches the edge of the edger guide. Then at other times it literally clips the twine so fast that, beyond any reason I can find... the twine is all gone! It does the job, but be prepared to make occasional adjustments. If you don't mind replacing the spool every 3 or 4 jobs (maybe 5 or 6 IF you have a relatively small yard, and/or don't do much edging or triming), then go for the spools, they are a snap to replace--just a bit pricey on this end here in Louisiana--no way I'm going into hock for some $140-$180 each summer to replace twine--at that rate, I could just pay someone else to do the job and save me the aggravation. Use the replacement twine and it's a bargain--if you have the patience to hand wind it.

Very simple device. A little difficult to wind and load with cutting string. Works best if string is wound around a cylindrical shaped object of the right size, the slip the coil onto this spool

I looked in several hardware stores & couldn't find these. Buying them online was less trouble, less expensive, and they were delivered right to my door. Thanks!

I have a hard time finding this spool in stores. It is great that I can get it here on Amazon. I will buy it here again.

The Poulan Weed Eater replaced a small trimmer that we had for years. Before purchasing this Weed Eater we used a small push mower to get the areas the ride mower couldn't get. Then we trimmed with a small trimmer. We have eliminated the need for the push mower because the new WeedEater covers such a large area. I have only used it as an edger one time and didn't master it right away but we have a large edger so it will not be a problem. We haven't had it long but so far we are truly pleased with it. It cuts really well and is light and easy to use.

Easy to install. I weed wack every other week and I've had no problems so far. Definitely worth the seven bucks I paid for it.

This replacement spool is the oem spool so no surprise it works fine. I've tried re-filling these with line in the past with varied results.

I can't find this replacement spool in my part of the world,so I ordered it online from weedeater.All I had to have was my model number of my weedeater.The rest was sooo easy,put in a order for a replacment spool,my name,address,city and state.How I wanted to pay,what form a mail did I want it sent by.When it came in the mail I was very glad to see it.Because weeds were beginning to take over my property,Thank goodness for amazon.com now I don't have to live in a jungle.

Last one lasted over a year....as long as you dont use it for your whole yard lasts a while. Also I don't use it for all my edging, I have an edger to do around the sidewalks. I use this for around the trees and next to the fence and sprinkler heads.

I'm baffled by the guy who claims it takes more than one of these refills to do his yard a single time. I can only guess that he owns thousands of acres, because I go through just 1-2 of these all summer on my suburban 1/4 acre. A handheld trimmer really isn't meant to mow an entire multi-acre lot....it's built to be a trimmer.
