We elected to purchase this machine after seeing what a similar machine could do with our half acre of wildland vegetation. After UPS dropped off the package we were up and runnin' in minutes after filling with oil (Poulan even supplied the oil) and gasoline. No tools are needed to assemble!

This weekend we successfuly took on some major reclamation that would have taken days without the trimmer. It's simple to start and trim line changes in seconds. A big plus is the clutch that only disengages the trimmer head but lets the engine continue to run.

I've discovered this things true name should be...."Yard Annihilator 4000" so while I jknow its called the Poulan Pro, I'm calling it by its true name in this review.. I have, without exaggeration, the fastest growing mutant alien "grass" in the known world. One year, I let a patch grow - it got over 6 feet. In the right conditions (which apparently I have) you can just about watch it grow and when I say its mutant grass, that's exactly what I mean - broad leafed, thick-stalked and packed tight - I've had this stuff choke and stall my riding mower. Not to be out done of course, hiding within are tall thistles as big around as a broom handle, nettles, sticky weeds and my arch nemesis.....the sticker bush. My yard is VERY lumpy, made all the worse by a mole-hill city and numerous rocks and stone debris hiding under the brush. To say mowing it is a nightmare, is an understatement in the extreme. Over the years I've tried everything from riding mowers to hand scythes and the standard weed-whacker proved to be the best, though far from ideal, solution.....until now.

I pulled the "Yard Annihilator 4000" out of its box and was generally impressed with the build quality. The rear wheels looked a little "plasticy" - mostly because they are, but other than aesthetics, I found nothing to gripe about. I added the oil (provided) gas and prepared myself for the inevitable shoulder-destroying start-up sequence. I pumped the primer 5 times, set the control to "fast", pulled back the throttle bar and took hold of the started handle. I braced myself, apologized to my shoulder in advance and pulled the cord......and the Yard Annihilator started up and purred like an angry kitten. First time pull, I was seriously impressed.

Engineered well it starts easy and whacks weeds like a sheep on steroids. The small capacity gas tank is a good idea because when I finish the rough areas I am about on empty. So I am starting each job with a fresh tank of fuel. But it isn't a gas hog, I only fill it to about half a tank. Overall I am very pleased with this trimmer.

This was delivered quicker than scheduled.

To borrow from Larry the Cable guy, this machine will "git 'er done!"

Bought the PPWT60022 to clear growth beneath the bottom strand of barbed wire fences and to deal with various vines one doesn't want getting into trees and shrubs. It handles those tasks with ease.

One does need to read the manual before you attempt to operate this machine. No exceptions! There is really no setup or assembly required beyond raising the handle to lock into position, filling the tank with gasoline, and the engine's crankcase with oil (comes with the machine). Again before attempting to even do those minor tasks, read the darn manual!

Once assured everything was ready to go, primed the carburetor and it started with a single pull. Engine is quiet compared to many mowers and edgers. There is a bit of noise on engaging the cutting head but little once the head is engaged. It is a good idea to do a test run on an area you don't care if you accidentally get into bare ground. This machine is aggressive and you need to learn how to control its cut before attempting to get around anything you may not want whacked. If you are not used to "manhandling" anything that requires strength in forearms and shoulders you will know you've had a workout the first two or three times you use this machine.

As with all power equipment there are operating safety issues involved, be wise and heed the cautions well described in the manual. Did I mention, "Read the darn manual?" Contrary to comments left in reviews about not using the machine on inclines it can be within the scope of recommendations found in the manual. There is in fact a very detailed illustration on the last page of the manual about usage on slopes. "Read the darn Manual!

This is the second one of these units I have owned.

I recently sold my homme to my daughter and she kept the first unit to continue to trim around all the fruit trees on the property.

I did not get a say in the matter.

At our new home I soon grew frustrated with the tangling string and unwieldliness of the "traditional" string trimmer I had purchased and thus bought another Poulan.

It makes trimmming so much easier.

There is no possibility of tangled string and the cutting whips last and last.

When they do need changing it is 30 seconds or less and you are back trimming.

It is lightweight and is easy to push.

I could not be happier with it.
