I purchased this mower in late June. The engine failed by october with oil in the cylinder. The retailer couldn't take it back because it has fuel. I took the mower to a Briggs & Stratton authorized repair shop ($45 charge). The shaft was bent, I was told that I must have hit something with he blade and that the warranty would not cover it. My daughters mow the lawn and claim to not have hit anything. I tend to believe them since there are no dings on the blade larger than a thin pencil lead. Poulan would not help (through their online assistance) since they "only made the deck", and that I should contact Briggs & Stratton. This engine had between 10 and 15 hours residential use on it. My last mower (Briggs & Stratton engine by the way) lasted 13 years and survived several bent bldes. The Briggs & Stratton 550 Series engine does not appear to be suitable for the intended use.

We purchased this mower for light duty on a small yard. It ran fine for about a month. After 2 months it ran choppy, then died and will not start again. I am embarrassed at the quality of this mower. The run handle also just fell off. Last time ever for Poulan and me.

The first time I used it, it started quickly and worked well. However, after sitting idle for a few months, it would no longer start as a result of a fuel blockage.

Purchased Weedeater Lawn Mower (550 Briggs/Stratton) in June/10. Ran it for a few minutes and placed into storage, Cranked it on Sept 25th for 1st use. It fired up for about 5 seconds, then cut off. Tried several times then placed back into storage house. On Oct 5th changed gas and checked spark plug wire and filter---clean. Still fires up for 5 seconds and stops. Still has price tag on it.
