A perfect unit for a little woman,
This review is from: Poulan Pro PR600Y22SHP 22-Inch Side Discharge/Mulch Front Drive Self Propelled Mower with 6 HP Briggs & Stratton Engine, High Rear Wheels and 5 Height Settings (Lawn & Patio)
This lawn mower is identical to the unit I bought through another store that carries its own name on the product and comes in red and white. Same engine. Same wheels in back.
Its descriptors: 1. 6 HP Briggs and Stratton Engine 2. 22-inch side discharge/mulch front drive 3. Self-propelled 4. 5 height settings 5. High rear wheels. For women who must buy their own lawn mowers, here are the things about this unit that I like: 1. I borrowed my brother's older, but identical model and LOVED the self-propelled part. My newer model isn't just self-propelled--it flies. Have you seen cartoons where a person grabs something and the something goes so fast, the person just flies horizontally to the ground. Yes, I exaggerate, but my point is to emphasize how you do not have to push this unit. It propels itself, plus I have no difficulty in controlling it. The secret is hanging on and having fun! 2. Those larger wheels in the back give the mower more stability so that the mower is easier to handle on slanted areas. 3. I love the mulch part. I am contributing to environmental soundness by adding the grass bits back into the grass and not bagging and putting out for the trash men to pick up. Plus, when the ex used to detach that bag and dump it into trash bags, it looked so difficult. I didn't want to do that and I don't. 4. 5-height settings. It came set at a perfect height--a little higher than close-mowed. I don't like close-mowed. 5. The Briggs-Stratton engine. I know nothing of engines and cannot address this part. Oh yes, the mower really starts on the first or second pull. Incredible. It is so easy. My brother's mower took several really hard pulls. Not mine. So easy, pull and go. V-rooooommmm!

Solid performer for a big yard,

There's an identical version of this mower branded as a Sears Craftsman and probably some other store brands. I got it for a large (2/3 acre) lawn and knew that I wouldn't be bagging, so this model is made for us strictly mulchers.
The large rear wheels are an improvement over earlier small-wheel models and the self-propel mechanism really flies. The fuel tank seems slightly larger that more basic models and lets me do about 1/2 level acre per tankful. The price is excellent for the power and features, it's been the all-around ideal mower for a non-bagger. I have a list of shortcomings, but no regrets, as the mower is priced well: self-propel lever doesn't seem to really allow you to vary the speed like the instructions claim, it's zoomy fast or stop; self-propel lever requires an awkward hand position, though not painful; curved chassis catches too many clippings on top; mulching plates underneath have gaps that catch too much grass (they could have been welded to stop that problem); handlebar is hard unless you buy the accessory foam grips; haven't found any oil drain plug in locations indicated in manual; rear wheel attachment system allows wheels to bow outward (don't know if this is deliberate, but it makes you wonder about long-term durability). All in all an excellent working mower for the price. If you think you might want to bag, buy the similar models with all the bag attachments already on, as they're made to take the attachments properly. Instructions indicate blade sharpening is not needed, but if you find a pattern to your cut it won't hurt to get that done.

This review is from: Poulan Pro PR600Y22SHP 22-Inch Side Discharge/Mulch Front Drive Self Propelled Mower with 6 HP Briggs & Stratton Engine, High Rear Wheels and 5 Height Settings (Lawn & Patio)
This machine works extremely well. Easy to assemble actually the only assembly was attaching the handle. Worked first time right out of the box, just follow the instructions for oil etc....After a couple of uses the machine started sputtering and loosing power....this was a result of a completely mucky and dirty air filter. We did not realize how dusty some areas were and had never checked the filter....a quick trip to Lowe's solved the problem......Lowe's has the best price for replacement filters (even better than Walmart). The most impressive feature of this machine is the mulching mode. Leaves just disappear and I believe if you take the advice of another reviewer, only mulch when the leaves are dry you would not be disappointed. Works like magic. Very pleased with this purchase....has a very large property and opted for this machine instead of a riding mower(over $1000.). The self propelling action makes it a breeze especially on inclines. No regrets.
