not recommended-- a disappointing book with some good aspects, February 9, 2008
This review is from: Poultry for Anyone (Hardcover)
This was a bizarre buying experience! "Poultry for Anyone" includes the exact same text as another book available on Amazon entitled "British Large Fowl". I'm not kidding, this book lifts page after page, word for word, with no effort to even slightly change word choices! The crazy thing is that "British Large Fowl"'s cover credits another author, Michael Roberts! Hmm.. so why is this book attributed to Victoria Roberts, and packaged with a dramatically different cover? Perhaps to dupe people into buying another book? I really feel swindled, especially because this book was so expensive.
Putting aside my crankiness about that issue, this book offers nice one-page descriptions of breeds with reasonable photography-- it is just waaaay too expensive for what it delivers. There are better choices, including the comprehensive "Storey Illustrated Guide to Poultry Breeds", "Choosing and Keeping Chickens", "Keep Chickens" etc.. I think I would advise shoppers not waste their money on this book-- instead, put the same amount of money to better use buying several other books.
