The shelves are reasonably sturdy given the design, yet light. I bought two to hold my books, each holds between 130-140 books. It should be noted that these are solid wood, not flimsy, and not particle board. These are said to be cappuccino colored, but that's not accurate at all. They are very dark brown, espresso would be closer to the actual color.

Set up was a snap, all you need is a phillips-head screwdriver. I'm not what you would call handy, but I put the first one together in about 40 minutes, and the second in 15.

Overall, I'm happy with the shelves. The only problem I have is that one of the shelves wobbles and there's no way to possibly adjust anything to fix it, as the last step of set up is running a wood screw through dowels. This last step does not allow for any adjustments once completed.

Similar items on the market are a sturdier, wider, have thicker side rails and larger shelves. However, those items also begin at twice the price of this one. It was easy to put together and comes with everthing you need, including the wood glue for the dowels. It is very functional for my purposes. I'm using it in my living room for decorative accents, a few books, and framed pictures. Not sure how it would stand up if used strictly for books. (If planning to use in an office or library mainly for books, definitely choose one of the more expensive models. Crate and Barrel and Value City Furniture have affordable options if you are looking for something that needs to hold a great deal of weight.) But if looking for a stylish piece to add some decorative elements to any room, save yourself some money and get this one. This is a nice choice at a good price.

This one is a keeper. The color is really elegant with a shiny gloss finish to it. Very easy to put together and for the price of $38, cannot beat it!!! This can easily sell for $150

I saw a shelf exactly like this in Pier 1 for almost $200. I was thrilled to find this one at a great price. It was very easy to put together. I do not think I would overload it, but it holds plenty of photos, vases, candles, plants, etc. The color is a nice dark espresso (not sure capuccino is the right description). It was a perfect addition to a bare wall. I will be getting another one for my home office. Excellent!

When the package arrived at my house, I could tell by the smell that we were going to have a problem before I brought it in the house. Luckily I did, b/c when I opened it outside, the box was full of stink bugs. Mostly squished stink bugs.
They were between the box and the packaging so it did not damage the shelf.
It was fairly easy to put the shelf together. It probably took me an hour by myself.
I have 2 complaints with the shelf. The first one is that the 2nd and 3rd shelves from the bottom always come loose and slant. I look at it and wonder if my eyes are playing tricks on me, but I can easily move them with my hand. I have tightened the screws repeatedly and it always happens again. The other complaint is that the very top of the ladder is not smooth wood. You won't see this unless you are very tall, but when I clean the shelf, my rag gets caught on the rough wood.
I suggest a higher quality shelf or one that doesn't lean but is more triangular shaped so there is added support and the shelves are screwed in 2 places rather than 1.

So it's been more than 2 weeks now since I've received the bookshelf and I'm quite happy with it. It was wrapped well, so that it wouldn't get damaged during delivery. Instructions for assembly were clear and easy and even though it said that 2 people are required to assemble the shelf I managed to do it by myself (of course being very careful not to break anything). Anyway, the final product is not extremely heavy, so that I can pick it up and move it where I want without extra help. There were some parts I didn't use - glue and small pegs that fill the holes for screws (just cause I couldn't fit them in).
The finish on the wood is very nice dark slightly reddish brown color. The wood itself is of good quality, so the shelf looks lush and not cheap. Overall I am satisfied with it and it looks very appropriate in my small place.

In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with this shelf! The price was fabulous and the quality more than surpassed my expectations based on price. We were nervous to buy it initially because shipping was as much as the actual shelf. Thought it would be quite a waste to pay all that shipping if we did not like the shelf and chose to return it. Sure glad we took the risk. We are using it to store linens and bath things in a guest bathroom. There is not nearly as much weight applied to ours as some of the other reviewers that chose to store books on the shelf. However, it seems very sturdy and I suspect it would do very well with heavier items. One reviewer commented that it was unstable when leaned against a wall with a chair rail. To clarify, this is a leaning wall shelf. It is meant to lean FLAT against a solid wall. Do not buy this product if you have a chair rail or crown molding going halfway up your wall. That seems like a given to me and I didn't think it was fair to knock on the product for that reason. It is very sturdy when leaned against a flat wall and even comes with hardware to secure the shelf to the wall if tipping by a small child or pet is a concern.

This is a great bookshelf for the money. It was easy to put to together. total time 30 min. I looks great but it could be built a little better. the fit and finish is not bad but it could be better. All in all the bookshelf is a good deal for the money.

I bought this based on a previous review that states it is "Real Wood!". This is NOT the case, it is a wood composite system. However this is not the presswood cheap stuff that would swell and peel at the slightest hint of moisture.

If you didn't know any better you could mistake it for real wood as the grain is imprinted, not laminated on and the stain is a convincing wood hue. For the price and quality, this is a value, I am considering purchasing a few more. The shelves seem very strong and I don't expect they would bow out like the cheaper press wood prefab shelving units of the past. They also have raised edges and back so things wont simply slide off the shelves.

They come extremely well packed and use wood pegs and glue with screws to ensure a solid built system.

I was able to assemble this by myself with no issues. I simply had plenty of room, laid out all the parts, read the instructions and took my time. It took me a total of 45 minutes for two shelves (2nd one went quickly).

I recommend this purchase. My shelves flank a fireplace of the same stain color in my sitting room. One is used as a traditional shelving unit the other to hold electronics/gaming systems for the TV mounted above the fireplace. While its great for the electronics, open airy and no overheating its very hard to hide the cords, as it is very open.

For the price (on sale), this really can't be beat by any other offerings on Amazon.

Looks pretty good, especially when it's at an angle where you mostly see it head-on. The finish is a nice faux-stained wood.

It's fairly sturdy, even without the provided wood-glue. I opted not to use it, as I want the option of disassembling it for moving.

The most important thing to note when comparing this with similar "latter" shelves is the third leg, barely visible in the picture. Some of the similar models don't feature this third leg, leaving the bottom shelf (which is the largest) unable to hold heavy books. So the third leg is a big plus! Unfortunately the next shelf up (second from the floor) still has problems holding heavy books, so I filled this row with smaller paper-back books.

Finally it's worth noting that this should be avoided if you have a thick, tall baseboard along the floor of the wall you want to set it against. If your baseboard is higher than ~6 inches, you won't be able to put the shelf flush against the wall, and this will case bending between the top and bottom half of the shelf. My baseboard is thin (~1/2 inch), so it's not too bad.

Overall, I'm pretty happy. If I had money to spend, I would get something a bit nicer, but this is a solid choice for the price-conscious shopper.
