AP: Why did you decide to release re-recorded versions of "Rock of Ages" and "Pour Some Sugar on Me" this summer?

Joe Elliott: Our work is not available on any digital domain, except for the last album, the "Mirrorball" album, because it's a catalog issue with the record label, so we just wanted studio versions of those songs available for this summer because of the film coming out.

AP: What was it like re-recording those classics?

Joe Elliott: We had to be really careful that we actually studied them, literally like forgeries. It's like Donald Pleasence in "The Great Escape" doing passports. It's got to be exactly the same to fool the old German guard. That's the same thing with these songs. We wanted them to have the same energy, that youthful exuberance we had in '83 and '87, so people that are sympathetic to our cause listen to them and say, "Wow, they've still got it. They can perform the songs the way they did back then."

This is my all time favorite song! I only wish they had the original version from the 80's, but I love this one too!

I wish more bands would do this. I LOVE it when they just make an old song sound newer. That's all they did, they didn't try to "fix" it cuz it wasn't broken!!!! Now... if only Rammstein would do that with Du Riechst so Gut.....

My 9 year old daughter informed me that she needed this. I agreed. We are both happy with the purchase.

I think it is such a crock that Def Leppard studied their old stuff to try to recreate it - the 2012 versions are NOTHING like the originals that us original fans have enjoyed for the past 25 years! Stop being greedy, DL, and let us be able to download the old sounds - there is nothing like them!!! Like another reviewer posted, it is nothing better than a tribute album sung by someone else - it may as well be someone else, because you guys are 25 years older and it SHOWS in the re-recordings. No sense in trying to bury the original versions because I seriously doubt you will make anywhere near the same royalties with these skimpy versions, as you would with the old versions and the old label taking their cut. You signed on with that label and they are the ones who helped you make it in the music industry - why are you trying to cut out the label now, and releasing tired, second-hand sounds in order to do so?!?!?!?!?!
