A "must" for all Wisconsin community library collections,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Powder, People and Place: Badger Ordnance Works and the Sauk Prairie (Paperback)
Michael J. Goc's Powder, People And Place: Badger Ordnance Works And The Sauk Prairie is a 404-page compendium of stories that put together a cohesive picture of the powder plant Badger Ordnance Works, and how it changed the lives of those who lived near it and labored for it since its beginning in 1941 through its eventual closure in 1975 with the end of the Vietnam War. A thoughtful, well-researched, deftly written, and detailed reminiscence of a microcosm of Wisconsin history, Powder, People And Place is a "must" for all Wisconsin community library collections and a seminal contribution to Wisconsin History academic reference shelves and supplemental reading lists as well. Michael Goe has done such a fine and seminal work that it could well serve as a template for other specialized community and regional histories.
