I'm very familiar with the Honeyville brand of powdered goods. I have used their powdered eggs and butter for years on my camping trips. The idea of eating powdered eggs with powdered butter might make some people cringe, but trust me when I tell you that out in the wilderness where things like eggs and butter don't mix well with other camping 'possibles, they are most welcome. Besides, this powdered blend really does taste much better than you would imagine. The butter is reconstituted with water, and has a little lighter and has more of a whipped butter consistency when done. It also has a little bit more of a milky taste than real butter, or margarine, and does take some getting used to for some people. Certainly not have I heard anyone that I have introduced it too or shared a fire side breakfast with call it gross or inedible. Having it along on a camping trip has always been wonderful for me. I pack a small amount in a tin and it is there and ready for any meal you may make or encounter along the way. And it has about a five year shelf life when kept sealed, and an added antioxidant for extra freshness. Remember that this powder can be used anywhere as a butter substitute. You don't have to be braving the savage wilderness to pull out the can. I use it at home occasionally just for something different.

In conclusion, powdered butter isn't cheap, and several brands on Amazon go for over $20 a pound. This two and a quarter pound can goes for a much fairer price and is a brand that I have trusted for years. There will always be a core number of folks that wouldn't dare try something like this or like it. But its my opinion that anyone that has done any camping or hiking will attest to not being that bad at all, and even darn tasty. I like it, use it all the time, and recommend it : )

Tastes like butter and EZ to make into butter. I live alone so a can means I've got butter for a year.

We really like this butter. Its really tasty. We bought it for our backpacking trips an wanted to try it out before we went. We tried it on banana bread an on steamed vegies an its creamy an nice flavor. Please remember this is dehydrated food an it will be different taste an texture. But this had a nice creamy butter taste an we will for sure keep this in stock. Plus I love that it has directions on how to hydrate it.

The butter powder came with an easy conversion chart that made my recipe easy to convert and the quality worked well.
I was making dry crepe batter and it was easy to experiment with this product as I just added a little extra during the process until it worked great.

I use a lot of Honeyville products (I'm sure I financed some of their equipment, along the way), and most all of their products are good to excellent, anyway. The butter is great - and really can only compare to their 'powdered shortening' for cooking convenience in a pinch.

I've also used their powdered milk to cook with, and to substitute for butter when out, but you can tell the taste, and it is quite-wasteful of the powdered milk.

With the powdered butter, just add water to consistency-desired, and either slap it on the toast, or blend it into the recipe. I find that the powdered shortening (just put a teaspoon of it in the skillet as a powder, and fire the skillet up - it melts in the pan) works better to keep food from sticking in a cast iron skillet, but if cooking with the butter, you can't beat the taste. Most, I'd say, couldn't tell it from fresh butter - and if you are making mac-n-cheese from powder, in the field, you need a bit of this and a bit of powdered milk, to mix up your cheese sauce.

To keep it fresh, everyone has their 'secret way' to do it - but the CHEAP WAY to keep it dark, fresh and ready, is to (once you open the can), break it down in 1-pint zip lock bags - half-cup to 1-cup to a bag, get the air out, then throw all your bags into the freezer. Now, it will last as long as the can's expiration date said it would - without a vacuum sealer, or other expensive contraption. Just write the date on the zip lock bags with a marker. Now they are dark, dry, air-free, and frozen to prevent bacteria growth! I do this with milk powder, too.

Ok, it's definitely not the stick butter we all know and love. However, it's a great alternative when the real thing isn't handy. We live ina very rural area and in winter it can be a challenge to get into the city for supplies. I bought this on a whim thinking it might come in handy and I was right! I wouldn't want to exclusively replace my real butter with it, but have been using it in recipes and it's actually not bad at all. I will be replacing my can this winter so I have some extra.

I have started buying powdered staples for myself in addition to other emergency items. This thing is easy to store, the instructions are easy to follow and it just makes sense. If you want anything remotely like butter after a disaster you either buy the canned stuff which is excellent as well or you get this stuff.
