A basic guide. Complete and accurate with Munter's 3x3,
By Mark M Mueller, Avalanche Forecaster (Pagosa Springs, CO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Powderguide: Managing Avalanche Risk (Paperback)
A very good basic guide to snow and avalanches. Of particular interest is that PowderGuide contains the first complete english translation of veteran Swiss mountain safety guru Werner Munter's 3x3 method of avalanche risk reduction for recreational backcountry users. Great color photos and effective diagrams. Includes sections on backcountry equipment and emergency first aid. Encourages safety consciousness and effective risk management strategies. A good first purchase or as an addition to your existing library.

Title says it all. Read through this book the first time. Read through Bruce Tremper's Staying Alive in Avalanche terrain every season. More comprehensive and connects with the reader better.
