This is the same adapter that ships with the new Amazon Echo, streaming device. It works to power the Amazon Echo, which can only be powered by AC - not by batteries.
I purchased the Amazon Echo after submitting a request for an invitation to buy via Prime, and receiving one approximately two weeks later. I purchased it for half off the retail price, and have enjoyed using it ever since.
The replacement adapter is identical to the one that ships with the unit, and has a 6' cord; semi-ridgid and tough to coil or wrap, with a typical two-prong AC connection on one end (as shown in product description) and the other attaching to the Amazon Echo at the base. Other single pin adapters (common to some laptops) may work with the Echo, however I'm not sure if that would damage the unit or not.
On the back of the adapter it says: "21W, 100-240V, 0.6A, 50/60Hz, Output - 15V - 1.4A, Made in China." The item's model number: LC89KS SC ; followed by specific serial number.
This is a quality product that while somewhat expensive, will provide you with the power source you need to power your Amazon Echo. Having a second adapter, gives you the ability to unplug in one room and connect up in another without having to move the AC adapter.
It's the same as the original, but it allows me to keep a plug ready in two locations in the house otherwise I'd have to reach under furniture to plug and unplug. Love the echo and like to move it room to room. The replacement adapter is a lot cheaper than buying a second echo.
I purchased this adapter to have a secondary adapter in my bathroom, that way I do not have to plug and unplug the Echo's included adapter when I want to take a shower and listen to some music at the same time.
My initial concern was whether or not I would have to perform the FULL Echo setup each time I unplugged it, which, if you own an Echo, you know can be quite time-consuming when you're first setting up the device.
Luckily, the Echo seems to memorize your wifi setup even when it is unplugged. This means that I can unplug the Echo from my office desk, plug it in within the bathroom, turn on the water and allow it to get hot, and before the water is completely hot, the Echo is ready to go. Simply plug it in, and the Echo will do the rest. 20 seconds later, you're ready to use your Echo without any further setup aside from plugging it back in.
As a side-note, the Echo does a great job of recognizing my voice even over the sound of the water while showering, so long as I don't exceed 50-70% volume. All-in-all a worthwhile purchase to give the Echo just a little added convenience when bouncing around rooms.
A little expensive for what it is but at this stage there are no after market "direct"plug" options with power requirements of 21W, 100-240V, 0.6A, 50/60Hz, And an Output of 15V - 1.4A .
The plug is also one of the smaller tube pin type so at this stage it is this or nothing. (and you have limited access under the echo to make other plugs work).
Has been an easy way for us to move our echo from location to location without needing to move furniture for plug access.
We had considered a second echo device but that might create a little chaos if the pair of them were within earshot of one another and started playing different playlists (be like battle of the bands).
Food for thought - I also unplug our echo despite the unit having a "microphone off" button - only way I know it is not listening is if it is off!!
This 21W adapter is fairly compact, but isn't ideal in all ways. It is the same as the adapter that came packaged with my Amazon Echo (which I am greatly enjoying!). Having more than one adapter is great because I use my echo in 2 different parts of my home and I just carry the Echo and the adapter is right there. A perfect solution for this lazy lady!
The output of this adapter is 21W at 15V and 1.4A. It is specifically made for the Echo.
A lot of Amazon power adapters look similar but are not interchangeable. The similarly sized Amazon Kindle 9W PowerFast Adapter provides 5V via a USB jack on the back and is intended for the Amazon Kindle series. It will also power many other devices that have USB based charging.
Another similar looking power adapter from Amazon is the Fire TV adapter. While It looks a lot like the Echo adapter it has 6.25V at 2.5A output and is NOT compatible with the Echo. If you are like me and have a FireTV sitting near your Echo "perch" and your charger for your Kindle Fire tablets I'm sure you'll see how it can be important to be aware of similar looking but incompatible adapters.
At first thought the $19.99 price seems steep, but it provides a fair amount of power in a compact package so maybe no so much..
The one thing I do dislike is how this adapter covers adjacent plugs on my power strip. Not an uncommon problem, but persistently annoying to me. On one of my power strips it blocks plugs on either side! Not ideal.
Despite having a power strip unfriendly design I am giving the Amazon Echo Power Adapter 5 Stars for making it much more convenient to move my Echo around my home.
