5.0 out of 5 stars A sure guide in a moment of crisis
This book came in as a most accurate guide in a moment of crisis. I kept worrying so much about my husband's bad health - he has heart insufficiency - that it ate me up. Changing the focus to appreciate how precious and rich is our relationship now and taking each day as a gift instead of apprehending it as a loss has changed it all. 1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing junk science.
I truly believe in the power of the mind. In so much as we can control our own thoughts we have tremendous control over our own moods and lives and can consequently impact the lives of those around us, but on a psychological level only. The authors' attempt to link the power of thought beyond our own bodies through actual physical phenomenon, like vibration, is...

It is hard work though and I am most grateful to the expertise skilfully shared with us by the authors to help me forge the right kind of vibration to get through fear and reach new grounds where hope and life prevail.

5.0 out of 5 stars Create a Better Life with Appreciation, October 7, 2004
This review is from: The Power of Appreciation: The Key to a Vibrant Life (Paperback)
One of the biggest stumbling blocks when we set out to make our dreams come true is appreciating what is going well. Most of us have an unfortunate tendency to dwell on problems rather than the good things in our lives... and then we wonder why things just seem to keep getting worse instead of better.

Therapists Noelle Nelson and Jeannine LeMare Calaba explain how you can achieve success in every area of your life through transforming your beliefs in THE POWER OF APPRECIATION. Whereas criticism, contempt, defensiveness and stonewalling work to destroy relationships, appreciation can help people feel like they're living in heaven on earth. Nelson and Calaba outline a practical five-step process to make your dreams come true that has proven effective for them with their clients. They also include scientific research and descriptions of individual case histories to help bring their ideas to life, so you can better understand how to harness the power of appreciation in your life. The five steps are: choosing what you desire, determining the feelings behind your desire, weeding out conflicting thoughts and beliefs, launching your vibration of appreciation, and working your appreciation.

THE POWER OF APPRECIATION really hits its stride when it examines how appreciation can transform the relationships in our lives. Every relationship at work, at home, and with friends can prosper when one applies its five-step process for developing an appreciative mindset. I highly recommend this book for anyone genuinely interested in creating a better life!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, It Works!!!!!, December 14, 2003

Appreciation is a tool we all have at our disposal and it is even FREE! Nelson and Calaba teach us how to work the Power of Appreciation to build a more rewarding life.

This book is clear and easy to read. It starts with a basic scientific explanation of how the Power of Appreciation actually works, and then walks you through the steps of applying the Power of Appreciation to your life.

I was so full of energy while reading this book. Since I have adopted this new understanding and new way of focusing my attention, I can see the effects unfolding in my life and it is truly shocking at times. My financial situation has improved dramatically, and so have my relationships with the people close to me- especially those I work with. These improvements are the exact desires I set forth with when I started learning this material!

I am so happy to have found this book, I want everyone to know how valuable it is. No matter what comes up in my life, I feel powerful now, because I know I have the ability to change things. Personally, besides all of the great improvements I am enjoying in my life, I think the best part of all is how much FUN it is to see what I can do with nothing but my own focus! I find myself imagining the changes we could make by working the Power of Appreciation in groups!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Appreciate this Book!, May 12, 2005

Unlike many "self help" type books, this one clearly explains how appreciation is a very powerful, practical tool. Not only identifying what appreciation IS, but putting it to practical use as well. Discovering that you can use appreciation in ways you'd never even think about. I've been practicing on aspects of my work and find that not only can I shift the results of my day, but I end up feeling much better about myself and my situation as well. This book is well worth the read. And since reading it, my attention has been drawn to many areas in our society that are also becoming aware of this untapped power that we all have at our disposal.
Great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff!!, December 22, 2003
By A Customer

Great stuff!!!

I've read a lot of self-help books, but this has to be the best one ever. Nelson & Calaba give you a lot more than the usual airy-fairy stuff. There's practical ways to use appreciation to make your life better, and they show the science behind the concept of appreciation (which is a lot more than just being grateful for things) that makes it work. I've been using it in my life and although I was sceptical at first, I've found that it really WORKS! My love-life and my finances have improved in ways I never thought possible. Well worth reading.

(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Power of Appreciation: The Key to a Vibrant Life (Paperback)
This book integrates recent research about the power of appreciation with ageless spiritual wisdom about the vibrational dynamics of life and reality. It presents practical ways of using this information to help readers shift their thought patterns and thereby change their vibrational state and what they are attracting into their experience. From the heart coherence research of the Institute of HeartMath to the water crystal photos of Dr. Emoto, the authors make clear how our thoughts create vibrational shifts that transform our external reality. They explain how appreciation can be used to attract positive experiences rather than continuing to maintain thoughts that energize negative experiences. This concept is very valid, but the authors fail to adequately explore how deeply embedded our thought patterns and vibrational patterns can be. For some people it is difficult to develop appreciation in some areas of their lives, as there are strong conflicting patterns in their subconscious levels of mind. It would take intense commitment to override the self-defeating patterns unless steps are taken to access the subconscious and transform or release the negative patterns at that level. Since this is a self-help book, it attempts to present things in a simple, clear way that will generate enthusiasm for readers to apply the concepts and exercises in the book. Unfortunately, by minimizing the complexities of how our thought patterns develop and how life unfolds, this type of approach can lead those who are skeptically inclined to readily give up on or criticize the approach when they don't get rapid results. The only other significant weakness I observed in the book was something very brief in the discussion of how appreciation was applied following terror attacks in America. A reference to appreciation of "steadfastness" of America's leaders was made, which in reality was part of the reaction desired by the orchestrators of the terror, making that instance of appreciation counterproductive to those who wish not to give power and energy to terrorism. In retrospect, a major thing to appreciate about those terror events could be how they fostered a growing awareness of who truly desire to have citizens in states of fear. The appreciation for freedom that the authors discuss has been of much value and instrumental in helping those viewing ongoing events recognize who were most eager to restrict American freedoms after the Trade Center/Pentagon attacks, leading to discovery of who really was involved in orchestrating those events. So despite that one brief flaw the discussion of appreciation in response to crisis in this book is generally quite valuable.

Appreciation is a very important vibrational thought/feeling pattern and this book does a good job of exploring the hows and whys.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slightly hokey but overall very good, August 23, 2007
This review is from: The Power of Appreciation: The Key to a Vibrant Life (Paperback)
The essence of this book is undeniably very good, very inspiring. Unfortunately I found it somewhat annoying (and patronizing) how the authors chose to show such an extreme negative 'come from' place when making an example of a person's thoughts when they are not living in appreciation, compared to when they are. I think it's more of the dull-grey insidious roar of our negativity that does the damage not the blatant "I'm horrible" stuff. They used the Fox News sensationalism tactics to over emphasize their points. Sort of like I just did!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly insightful...and very practical, March 10, 2007
This review is from: The Power of Appreciation: The Key to a Vibrant Life (Paperback)
I think this book is life-changing. "Wow, I can really change," would be the appropriate reaction. If you apply this 'appreciation' mentality to your own life, you feel yourself changing. A change from within, so to speak. What's fascinating is that you then see a natural change in your own social environment as well. It's very practical, very applicable, very positive...definitely worth your time. Highly recommended.
