I really enjoyed this book. I didn't really know what the style of my boat was considered, but after reading this, I learned that I own a Walkaround, or express boat. That alone was worth the price of the book.

This book really covers everything well in a very readable format.

Just about every topic that I wanted to learn something more about was in this book.

It's no replacement for Chapman's Piloting and Seamanship, which is the definitive tome for boating. But if you need more of an intro to boating, this book is highly recommended.

Another good one from the For Dummies series, this fairly comprehensive A to Z book covers ALMOST everything the novice or rusty boater needs to learn... but there's a new book out that's even better and more current with a lot more photos and graphics - plus a free, instructional DVD: Sportsman's Best: BOATS - Book & DVD Combo
These two books make the perfect combo for anyone looking to enhance their boating knowledge and skills, or anyone new to power boating.

For boating safety specifically, an excellent and inexpensive supplement is the the e-book: BOATING SAVVY: What KNOT To Do - Often-overlooked & Lesser-known Keys To Safe & Smart Power Boating: 2nd Edition

For someone interested in boating, but no idea where to start, this is the perfect book. It is well organized, well written and provides all the details a beginning boater needs to know. I am especially happy with the sections on maintaining your boat and boating etiquette. Bottom Line: a good collection of tips to make boating fun and keep new boaters from looking like idiots on and around the water.

This book is a great resource for those new to the sport of boating. I knew nothing about boating when I bought our first boat recently and have relied heavily on this book to get started. It would be a good read cover to cover, but I find myself jumping around to different sections to answer certain questions I have. It is very reader friendly and easy to find various boating topics. The author seems to have covered everything you would need to know, as I have found information on every subject I have referred to it for so far. I would strongly recommend this book for the beginner or for anyone looking to brush up on their knowledge of boating.

This book isn't for dummies, as it might suggest. It's the perfect book for someone who knows a little about boating, but is new to the sport and wants to learn more. I would recommend this as one of the best all-around boating books. Much better than the others I bought.

This is a nicely written book and the conversion to Kindle includes several useful diagrams. (They even kept the critical cartoons at the front of each chapter.)

I learned a few things, and I appreciate that, but this book is quite oriented towards smaller power boats. Sailing is not covered, and little is said about larger, non-trailered boats. (Of course that would be Yaching for Dummies, a wonderful title with a wide readership.)

So quite thing for the absolute beginner or someone who is just in the daydreaming stage. A little basic for those who have had a boat for a year or two.
