One such band, Christie First Drive, brings Mineral to the attention of Caulfield Records resulting in the 7 single, Gloria b/w Parking Lot. As the band continues to tour, the single gets the attention of Jeff Matlow at crank! A RECORD COMPANY who goes on to sign the band to their first album deal in 1995.
Recorded and mixed in one week back home in Austin, The Power Of Failing is released in 1996 and immediately connects with the cool folks who program college radio stations (the album climbs into the top 30 of the College Music Journal chart). A mountain of press follows as the band continues to tour with the likes of Hot Water Music, Jimmy Eat World, The Promise Ring and others.
Considered at this point to be among the forerunners of the indie/emo scene, the bands soldout shows become increasingly more populated with major label A&R reps. The schmooze-fest that ensues eventually ends in 1997 with Interscope Records claiming victory by signing the band, with the understanding of one last record to be released by crank!
Mineral heads to San Diego, California in 1998 to record EndSerenading with Mark Trombino (Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World) producing. The music tracks are recorded first, the vocal tracks months later. The album is finished and so is the band.
As quickly as they arrived, Mineral has departed. Citing creative differences the band divides prior to the release of EndSerenading, but not before creating a sound, and enlarging scene, that others will follow. Chris and Jeremy find their future in The Gloria Record. Gabe launches Pop Unknown and Scott continues to play with various bands.
