Torrey reminds us that all the Christians who left a significant mark were pray-ers. Prayer is active! It is for doers. He begins with a discussion on the role of the Holy Spirit by emphasizing that we are totally dependent on Him. "If we try to take one step in our own strength, we will fail," he writes.

Dr. Torrey puts the purpose of Bible study into perspective when he advises, "Do not study the Bible for the mere gratification of intellectual curiosity but to find out how to live and how to please God." In studying the Bible, he says to do so in God's presence, asking Him to give understanding.

This book is filled with reflective statements that help you to examine life. Consider this observation he makes, "Nothing more clearly reveals a man's heart than what he chooses and what he rejects." And on living in the present, "Those who always do the thing that should be done today are successful for time and for eternity."

That's just a sampling. The wisdom contained herein makes this book well worth the price. It is a book for achievers, for people who want to make a significant difference for "time and eternity."

I picked this book up a couple of months ago, and I have not been able to put it down!!! It is simply the "fresh water" (Holy Spirit) the Evangelical Church needs in these last days!! If the Power is missing in your life, this book, through Jesus the Christ, will restore it!!!

I believe everyone should buy this book, it is one of the best ones I have read in years. R.A.Torrey is from the 1800's, so you know they didn't have the distractions that we do today. The men then really studied deeper than we do. You have the benefit's of their studies. You have to go slow with this book because it's more than just a book to read, it's a study book too. You will be blessed to read this beyond your imagination. So many of my friends are studying it out too.

Our church body worked through this book during Tuesday night bible studies. This is a must read from beginning to end. As the cover states "How to Receive God's Best for your Life" is what this book accomplishes if you do your part in practicing the methods suggested in this book. I have purchased this book for many...the saved and the unsaved to share what has blessed me.

This is a wonderful must read/must apply book.

This book is a wonderful book for helping us to understand more fully God's Love and Presence. I would strongly recommend it to anyone wanting a more fulfilling christian life and understanding of God's love for mankind.
