5.0 out of 5 stars An Excelent Book!
This boook is awesome! I loved all that I have read! I read books 1 through 6, and was extremely satisfied with what they gave me in words, comics, and even cards! It's one of those series where you can't put down any of the books until you're finished! I would recomend them to any girl over 8. If I could I would rate it 100 stars. Both me and my friends love these...

This book is about five girls who discover they have magical powers that are linked, for the most part, with the elements fire, water, air, and earth. Will and Taranee have only recently moved into town and are still trying to make friends (in fact, the start of the book is Will's first day in town and the school). They soon are befriended by Irma, Cornelia, and Hay Lin. In this book, the group mostly seems to worry about what to wear to the big party at school and what the guys they like think of them, but I imagine that the later books will go more detail about the characters who'd like to stop them from saving the universe with their powers. I'm also interested in finding out more about Elyon, a friend of the group's who's left out of all the powers stuff.

Unlike some of the reviewers of this book, I have not seen this in the original comic form. This book does have comic inserts at the beginning and the end, which I actually liked a bit better than the book itself. The comic insert at the end overlaps a bit with some of the events at the end of the book, which made it clear that the author wasn't very good at depicting the magical parts with words. Also, I, like another reviewer, wasn't happy with the way the girls treated Elyon. Teasing, I can see, I really can't believe that any real friends would have tried to punish her for not getting a good grade. As far as the writing style goes, I thought that the constant point of view switching was very confusing. Each chapter was written from the perspective of one of over six characters. I do think that the story has promise, however, and there are a few characters who I'm looking forward to seeing more of. Although this isn't really a bad book, it's not all that good either.

3.0 out of 5 stars [Censorship], April 29, 2004

I have to say I've been lucky to read this comic in it's original european-version (yes originally it is a comic, not a novel,I don't understand US decision to turn it to a novel) and I'm so sad to find that the few comic pages kept are censored!! That's why I'm giving it 3 stars. I am actually a fan of the comic book, I don't think it's an anime wannabe (in fact it would be "manga" wannabe if you wanted to use the term), of course it's inside the genre of magical girls, but it is NOT a rippoff of anything. If you could see the original story I'm sure everyone at least would give it a chance and of course fall in love with the story and characters.

This is a great book and i reccomend it, escpecialy to preteen girls! It is a new book, published in 2004. I bought books 1 and 2 and plan on buying 3,4, and 5. Each one included a card featuring a character from the book. I think you must read this book! Friendship plays a big role throughout these books!

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked this book, but..., August 15, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Power of Five (W.I.T.C.H., 1) (Paperback)
I really like the W.i.t.c.h. book series, but in some parts they sort of say mean things about some of the characters because they have messy hair, they have acne, or they are overweight, and in one part it wasn't really saying wearing glasses is a bad thing but it said "four-eyed Martin" or something like that, when Taranee actually wears glasses too. It's hard to believe that all six girls (Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia, Hay Lin, and Elyon) all have perfect skin and hair and are all thin, which is really unrealistic since they're all in middle school.
Other than that, this is a good series about five girls who transform into the Guardians of the Veil and fight evil. I also recommend the Winx Club TV show and the books based on it. Some say that W.i.t.c.h. copied Winx Club or Winx Club copied W.i.t.c.h. but there are several diffrences. Really the only thing that's the same are that they transform and have wings, the red-haired girl is the leader, they're both from Europe, and they both start out with five girls. However, both series are a lot like anime and magical girl anime often has five main characters (like Sailor Moon and Tokyo Mew Mew). But in Winx Club they met Layla in season two, and Elyon in W.i.t.c.h. doesn't really count since she's not a Guardian. Anyway I recommend both series. I haven't seen very much of the W.i.t.c.h. tv show but what I saw was okay. I like the Winx Club TV show better because season 2 is a lot like anime.

This book is a great one to read with friends. It really shows how five girls who are totally different can come together to protect the world together and work together. This book will get you out spending more time with friends, and making new friends. I highly suggest this book to read with a friend and sharing it with friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars W. i. t. c. h., 1 The Power of Five, September 5, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Power of Five (W.I.T.C.H., 1) (Paperback)
This is a very good book about five girls: Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia, and Hay Lin. It is mainly focused on Will, who is a new girl in Heatherfield. It is a very interesting book because it is sometimes a little suspenseful and is well written. It is a fantasy, my favorite type of book, and always makes me want to jump into it and read it all over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ebonee Allen's Review of The Power of FIVE - WITCH, April 26, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Power of Five (W.I.T.C.H., 1) (Paperback)
My book is on WITCH (The Power of 5). This book tells about how five girls meet and discover they have super powers. HayLin's grandmother YanLin told Haylin and her friends about she was a guardin of the veil. Later in the book they start a group and call themselves WITCH. As they learn how to use their powers they also fight in their first battle.
In the book there are five main characters. Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and HayLin. Will is the leader of the girls. She has the power to make things talk to her. Irma has the power of water. She kind of doesn't like Cornelia because Cornelia thinks about herself all the time. Irma is very smart and loves water. Next is Taranee, she has the power of fire. Taranee is smarl and whenever Irma and Cornelia get into arguments, Taranee's there to break it up and solve it. Cornelia is the popular selfish type of girl. She sometimes doesn't follow the rules. She has the power of earth. Last is HayLin, who has the power of air. Her grandma was once a guardina. HayLin has style with her clothes and she's very smart. HayLin sometimes can be brave wand sometimes she can be afraid.
The problem in the story is that weird things start to happen to the girls and they don't know what is going on. One day HayLin's grandmother told them about how she had special powers and was the guardian of the veil which she has passed down to them. The girls begin to use their powers and become accustom. Their friend Elyon became missing after the big Halloween dance and their search began.
Will, Irma, Tarnaee, Cornelia and HayLin are trying to find Elyon by fighting battles. At the end of the book they fight their first battle. What they don't know is Elyon was hiding behind a tree. She was watching their every move. The girls do not realize that she saw them.
I like this book very much. I would recommend this book to another person because I think they should get to read it and experience the adventure. You can also watch the TV show that come on ABC Kids.

A Kid's Review

I would totally recamend this book! It has great detail and I can see every thing happening inside my head. I love Hay Lin. My friend got all of us (my other friends and I) to read these books and nowwe relate each other to the charicters. We have such a great time with these books. I hope you will enjoy this book and the other books that follow it. They have comics inside that give you a better pitcher of the setting. Also they give a card of a charicter and the back tells you alot of info. about them. I hope you get and like this book!!!
