1984's "Power Games" was 220 VOLT's second album. One of the first generation Swedish metal bands (along with HEAVY LOAD, TORCH, AXEWITCH, SILVER MOUNTAIN, EUROPE, OVERDRIVE, etc.), 220 VOLT (formed in 1980) made an instant impact with their excellent '83 self-titled debut. Their style of very moody, melodic, European heavy metal remains unique to this day. Signed by Epic Records, 220 VOLT had all the ingredients needed to become a dominant force in the world of early 80's heavy metal. Sadly, they never were able to break into the American market like their fellow countrymen EUROPE (who promptly wimped out as soon as they became successful).

Released in February of 1984, "Power Games" was instantly recognized throughout Europe and Japan as a tour de force. With the high standard set by their debut it would have been easy for 220 VOLT to release a dud of a second album. Instead they came out with a superior sophomore effort which included even better songwriting, top-notch musicianship, and an amazing production. "Power Games" is a blizzard of some of the heaviest, melodic metal ever produced on the European continent.
The twin guitar work of Thomas Drevin and Mats Karlsson is simply stellar with lightning leads and dark riffs, the rhythm section is tight as a drum, and vocalist Jocke Lundholm is simply amazing. Truly one of my all-time favorite heavy metal vocalists. The Graham Bonnet of Swedish metal.

The album opens with the powerful and crushing "Firefall" before taking flight with the brilliantly catchy "Airborne Fighter". Next up is the very European "Over The Top" which contains some of the raddest dual guitar work this side of THIN LIZZY or IRON MAIDEN.
