5.0 out of 5 stars Heavier, better FASTER PUSSYCAT, May 23, 2010

This review is from: Power & The Glory Hole (Audio CD)
The first three Faster Pussycat albums [Faster Pussycat; Wake When It's Over; and Whipped!] were all good but this album is in a category by itself. It doesn't really sound like the first several albums, but it's true to the spirit of them as it's got sleaze to please. It's take no prisoners rock 'n' roll at its best and is not for the faint of heart. It's basically the story of Hollywood rock 'n' roll: a raw and perverse mixture of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll as only those who've been there know it.

The snippets available on the music sampler really don't do this album justice. Even though it's got two covers [These Boots Were Made for Walking; and Shut Up & F__k], every song is well done, including the oddly tasteful adieu to Bianca Butthole on the album closer [Bye Bye Bianca] that just keeps pounding and crunching with a great backbeat and deathly guitar licks.

Other than Taime Downe [now, just Taime apparently], there are no other original Faster Pussycat members on this album. There was a big dispute a few years back with Brent Muscat and Taime fighting over the name. Taime won by default as Brent Muscat basically just gave up and declared Faster Pussycat "dead". Dead it might be. But it's Newlydead as this new album is closest to the album "Dead End" by the Newlydeads, a band which Taime Down also fronts.

As this album is in a category by itself, the only way I can describe it is as similar to "Dead End" by the Newlydeads, which itself is somewhat similar to Rob Zombie's oeuvre. The difference is that "The Power and the Glory Hole" is better, much better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dirty Boys Deliver the Sleaze Rock Again, January 3, 2009
This review is from: Power & The Glory Hole (Audio CD)
If you enjoy hard rocking sleaze rock, chance are you've been in a void lately. Fear not. The original sleaze rockers that brought us "Got your number off the bathroom wall" and "Where there's a whip there's a way" have returned once again with "The Power and the Glory Hole."

While this disc doesn't recreate the exact same style of music they made in the 80's and 90's, it does offer several great new cuts, including some that are instant sleaze classics such as, "Shut Up and Fxxx", "Hey You", "The Power and the Glory Hole, and "Gotta Love It." If you don't play guitar now, after hearing these songs you will want to.

I'm just thankful these guys are still kicking and care enough about their fans to continue to put out great hard rock that harkens back to the stank of the Sunset Strip. For those of you who aren't familiar with this band, I recommend picking up this disc. (as well as some of their other stuff.) I think you'll agree that they were one of the most original and fun bands to come out of LA. Not to mention very underrated.
