Book Description

March 1999
The Heart-Stopping Sequel to Deliver Us From Evil

The familiar, tragic horrors suffered by the Jewish people under Nazi rule in World War II also happened twenty years earlier, to a different people, in a different place.

In the early 1900's, the two and a half million Armenians in Turkey lived in relative peace, cherishing their Christian faith and their belief that they were the direct descendents of Noah. With the coming to power of the "Young Turk" government, tolerance for the Armenians was replaced with a desire to eradicate them.

In The Power and the Glory, World War I is now reaching its bloody conclusion and the landscape of the world has changed. Still reeling from a brutal massacre ordered by the Turkish government, the Armenian people are now little more than a bedraggled group of orphans, torn from their land and each other. Tatul and Adrine, two Armenian refugees, find themselves in the exotic and scandalous city of Istanbul where they begin the arduous task of gathering enough people to fight to regain their leveled homeland.

The Power and the Glory continues the powerful story from the successful Deliver Us From Evil and is a tale about a strong people searching for hope and courage under the most forbidding circumstances. Treachery and betrayal even among their own people hover in each dark crevice of Istanbul and Tatul is faced with the most difficult choice of his life: risk everything for the mission or guard with his life the woman he loves? As the final remnant of Noah's lineage are reduced to a mere band of survivors, Tatul and Adrine must prepare to sacrifice everything to save the future of the homeland.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great follow up to "Deliver Us From Evil", June 21, 2000
This review is from: The Power and the Glory (In the Shadow of the Mountain Series #2) (Paperback)
This is another great book by Clint Kelly. Besides being easy to read and quite factual, the book covers a very little known subject, that of Armenians in Istanbul after the end of the Armenian Genocide and WWI. Like the first book, besides being a riveting story, this book deals with the spiritual and emotional struggles Armenians were going through in dealing with the Genocide. A main theme of the book is forgiveness, which is brave step for Kelly to take when writing on this subject. The book even includes Armenian traitors and vengeance assassins, which accurately portrays the complexity of the aftermath of the Armenian Genocide. This is again, a great book for those knowing little about the subject, and an excellent book to help Armenians ponder many of same issues they deal with today.
