5.0 out of 5 stars goa trance at it's best
well, does goa trance come any way except great? this box set is awesome... the first 2 cds really have the usual goa stuff that's so awesome, but the last cd really kicks some ass. it's also know as the album "optimystic" by psygone, which alone makes the box set worth buying. check out the reviews on optimystic - it kicks serious ass.

if you can find it,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Value
Okay, so it is not the greatest of Goa, and there is some filler, but overall a great deal for 3 CDs, and there are some real standout tracks. I like to have it playing in the background, keeps me energized. One CD is rather short, but the others play for almost the full 80 minutes.

A fan of the genre should be pleased with this purchase.

if you can find it, pick it up. it's a great set of psytrance and goa. the last cd is worth the money alone, plus you get 20 other tracks of hard trance tunes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad, February 14, 2006

Definetly not goa trance at it's best but i got this for only 7 USD so it's worth buying. But if you like MFG, Man With No Name, Astral Projection etc.. look up the Destination Goa's or Goa Head's.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is NOT Goa, April 11, 2010

Anyone who buys this 3-disc set expecting to hear "Goa trance" may be a little disappointed. That said, you get quite the bang for your buck, here, three full CD's of instrumental techno music, which, while not "Goa" trance, is still worth listening to. It reminds me of good music from a bad video game. Utterly forgettable after a few listens, but you may find a favorite buried in the mess of tracks. I think my biggest complaint was the lack of a recognizable theme anywhere, along with the absence of samples. Something simple, like a popular riff, or lyric, even repeated ad-nauseum, might have given this the nod to hipness. As it is now, there's no clues as to what the names of the songs might be, or why titles would even be relevant without a glance at the liner notes. Also couldn't even guess at why anyone would think "Goa" when listening - there is not a single live recording anywhere on the discs, and all of it is processed with the same envelope and volume throughout. This could be done in a single afternoon in a studio using MIDI.

If you'd rather listen to some real Trance, then anything with Armin Van Buren, Paul Van Dik, or Paul Oakenfold would be a better choice.

3.0 out of 5 stars really bad and really good, March 26, 2010

This collection is quite a mess. The liner notes include a list of "love songs" not even on these disks. The first 2 disks have some of the weakest, monotone, repetitious goa I've ever heard.

...but the 3rd disk has Psygone's entire first record: "Optimistique", which is some of the better, more powerful goa I've ever heard. I can simply describe it as a fat, pounding, creepy sex soundtrack for your craziest fantasies. You'll probably have a difficult time finding Optimistique (especially at this sound quality), unless you buy this collection.

I recommend you look for this set for about 1/3 the price elsewhere.
