An encouraging, biblical book on healing.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Power Healing (Paperback)
This is not a splashy, sensational account of testimonies to
healing. Testimonies there are, but Wimbers excellent handling
of the subject of healing is presented, not as evidence of the
insights and abilities of Wimber, but, as Richard Foster
comments in the Introduction, as a reminder "that at the very heart of
God is the desire to give and forgive. [This] book encourages
us to believe that God is good and that he desires to pour out his
goodness into our hearts and lives." (p. xi)
It would be difficult to recommend a more biblically-based
book on healing that is also as practical and honest.

One of the best books in Healing and Deliverance,
By
This review is from: Power Healing (Paperback)
This would be one of the best books in the area of healing and deliverence. In the early Pentecostal days with lots of healings and deliverance taking place, what came lacking was the theology to healing and deliverance, and John Wimber wrote Power Healing at a time where a strong renewal theology in healing and deliverance was needed. This is not a book like those you get from the "Word of Faith" movements. This book is solidly grounded on the Word of God, not denying the reality of life, but faces them head on. This book deals with some very difficult issues, e.g. "Can Christians be demon possessed?" and "Why are all not healed?"
I appreciate John's humility in writing this book, not as an expert, but as a practitioner discovering the heart of God in this subject matter. John wrote candidly and also the struggles he faced, and I believe you would be able to identify very much with what he wrote. I am most inspired by his perseverence and tenacity in praying for people to be healed. He began the healing ministry with no one getting healed for 10 months (how many of us would have given up already) but he pressed on believing in God's redemptive heart, of which healing is part of it all. Through his journey and discovery, he writes this book like a primer to the ministry of healing and deliverance, and this is a must read for anyone venturing into this area.

He loves you and wants you healed! Books like this will build up your faith and get you started. More advanced: "The Power of Divine: A Healer's Guide" by Tiffany Snow and "Hands of Light" by Derek Prince.

Wimber is the Real Deal,
This review is from: Power Healing (Paperback)
John Wimber was a man who affected his generation. He loved the Lord and accepted healing as part of the atonement. He not only presents what he believes from a biblically sound perspective but he also went ahead and gave testimonies of healings that he witnessed. Only other authors this good on the subject might be F.F. Bosworth or Smith Wigglesworth.

Good book for information on Healing,
By
This review is from: Power Healing (Paperback)
This book looks at the power of healing. It begins by looking at the reasons why Jesus healed people. Then it moves on to examine what things Jesus healed. Finally, the author discusses how Jesus heals today.
Make no mistake the author writes about an active charismatic type of healing, not just passive prayer to God for healing. The author describes many different experiences of healings and even provides a model to start the practice of healings. The model involves not just healing physical illnesses, but also mental and emotional illnesses as well as casting out evil spirits. For example, according to the author, the procedure to cast out a demon is to identify the spirit, silence the spirit, and then cast out the spirit. The process for healing someone is through prayer before, during, and after the healing. It also can involve the laying on of hands. To me this book was not what I was looking for. Does God heal people today? Yes! Does He heal charismatically like the way the author describes? Maybe, He has the power to do so if He chooses. This book does not convince me that anyone can heal nor does it convince me these charismatic gifts are still in widespread use by God today. Overall this is a good book for learning more about the power of healing through God.

POWER HEALING by John Wimber is a powerhouse book. He explores, in detail, the ministry of divine healing and tackles the tough questions; such as what happens when a person is not instantly healed. What are the causes, conditions and ramifications? Such was the fate of his own heart condition and an illness which took his good friend.Writing about why people don't get healed, he is honest and direct. He writes, "There is another reason - I believe the most fundamental reason - why more people are not healed when prayed for today. We do not seek God as wholeheartedly as we should." From lessons of decades of ministry around the world, Wimber blends his personal experiences with scripture and principles of healing. Understanding the basis for divine healing as well as the authority for it, impediments and prayer techniques can result in people being healed more often. His insights are extremely valuable to both the person praying and the one seeking healing. One of the most interesting aspects of the book was the procedure he recommends for praying for the sick; a five step process: The Interview Diagnostic Decision Prayer Selection Prayer Engagement Post-Prayer Directions Wimber is not purely formulaic, however, as he writes with passion, clarity and power. But there are techniques which can help make the ministry more effective. These he shares freely. Wimber tackles difficult topics including demonic forces, spiritual warfare, speaking in tongues and spiritual gifts. Whether the reader needs healing or is working in this ministry, Power Healing is a must-read.

Excellent book from a "regular guy" whose faith was radically challenged. Is there a Biblical reason that healing and miracles don't happen today? Or are we just so programmed to expect so little from God that we don't step out in faith to be God's vessels through which His power is supposed to be flowing? I learned a lot and have been practicing what I learned with AMAZING results.

First book I have read by John Wimber. Appreciated his transparency concerning not only the healing ministry, but his personal life. Received some valuable nuggets to help me as I purpose to help others receive Jesus' healing ministry.
Also, greatly appreciated receiving this book in a very timely fashion! Great service!

Christian Healing,
This review is from: Power Healing (Paperback)
Power Healing by John Wimber with Kevin Springer is a thick book of just over 300 pages. The book covers all aspects of healing, including deliverance from demons and is packed full of Scriptures, insights, personal testimony of Wimber and the testimonies of others. The author also includes other viewpoints on healing (is it in the atonement or not?) and related aspects. The book includes several appendices and even a glossary of terms, alongside pages of sources and notes.
I found the book helpful and enjoyable, though in areas, it felt like the author was getting bogged down with an overload of information which only slowed down the progress of completing the book and did not add anything extra. Even the sources and notes can have more than a page on just one point, though, sometimes it quite interesting. This is the springboard book from Power Evangelism by the same author accept that it focuses on all aspects of healing (including the inner man), rather than evangelism. Yet much of the author's life from the first book is repeated in this in the earlier chapters, though this more or less sets the scene for the book and how he knows what he does and thus writes from experience. Other things contained within the book are: sin and sickness, suffering, emotions and response, how to heal (to go about it), inner healing, four types of deliverance, organic disorder, God heals, use of medicine, faith, terminally ill (very good), raising the dead, dying and death, guiding principal, healing and worship and practices to master. I have read easier books on the subject, like Healing Rays by Jeffreys and several faith inspiring books by T. L. Osborn, but this book is more practical, with a touch of academic in the first few chapter (which is not helpful - e.g. philosophies and worldview) and is more balanced than those of Osborn, but is still a good and helpful book on the vital subject of Christian Healing |
