A RECOMMENDATION WITH RESERVATIONS,
By
This review is from: The Power of Intention (Hardcover)
I'm going to end up recommending this book with one major and two minor reservations. If you can get past the reservations (which I will explain), I believe there is something here that might make a difference in your life and mine. You'll notice that the majority of reviews give the book 5 stars, but a significant minority give it 1 star. I'm guessing that the wide disparity of reactions is based on how surmountable or insurmountable the reservations were to each reviewer. My purpose is to help you decide whether for you it would be worthwhile shelling out the $18-$25 price of the book
Here's the major reservation: in Calvinism, you could tell who was saved and going to heaven by how successful and prosperous they were. In Social Darwinism, successful people were evidence of survival of the fittest. In the Power of Intention, people create the lives they want based on being "aligned with Intention". The implication is that if they are poor, diseased, homeless, or victimized, they are not aligned with Intention. They may not be sinners (Calvinism) or unfit (Social Darwinism), but they are unenlightened and somehow responsible for their unhappy fate. I wonder what advice Dyer would have had for the victims of the recent tsunami. If Dyer's theories are correct and universal, should we be translating his book and dropping it into distressed areas like Darfur in the Sudan or perhaps in the Sunni triangle? Personal responsibility is a powerful and often overlooked factor in the human condition, but Dyer seems oblivious to the possibility that there might be other factors at work, as well. His five words "I want to feel good" would be a tough sell for the sole survivor of a family that has just been murdered. The first minor reservation is, pardon the big word, epistomological: how does Dyer know what he says he knows? For example, how does he know that there are precisely seven "Faces of Intention"? Why not six or eight or ten? Is he the Chosen Receiver of Spiritual Truth with his own private Mount Sinai, or more likely, is he simply inventing a systematic break-down of Intention or figuring out what Intention should include? The system and the seven faces are plausible and useful, but where and how did he get them? The second minor reservation is that Dyer does not really share with us how alignment with Intention has made a difference in his life. For example, how did it help him overcome addiction to cocaine or alcohol? How did it help make his second marriage better than his first? These stories would help him connect his theories with his life and help the reader do the same. All that said, I still think Dyer is onto something. I have a vague awareness of the power of Intention in my own life, and after reading the book, I now intend to pursue it in a conscious way and see what turns up. The possible benefits of this experiment far exceed any conceivable costs. And this is why I end up recommending the book to you, IF you can get past the reservations.

Connect to the energy and then detach. Great Book!,
By Jay Reese (Sarasota, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Power of Intention (Hardcover)
A lot of important information is given in this book that will help you connect to the field of energy that you are connected to whether you may realize it or not, and then detach from what you are trying to manifest in order to allow the manifestation process to bring you what you desire. This is a comprehensive book that will help to elevate your life in all areas. It will help you turn you negative thinking around, which is the by-product of turning your life around. This is one of the few books that has impacted my life, and has helped me to `feel good' which is why it is highly recommended.

Become A Connector To Manifest ANYTHING,
By
This review is from: The Power of Intention (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful book that will teach you how to align intention and focus, along with your energy to manifest what you desire to create in your life. By using the tools in this book, you WILL receive that which you place your focus on.
This book will teach you how to become A 'Connector' by working in harmony with those around you. It gives you examples to raise your energy above the negativity of 'competition' and shows you how to align yourself in harmony no matter what your outer conditions are. When you are attuned to this field of alignment, you will radiate and attract to you exactly what is within the field of energy you are in harmony with. Connecting to the filed of intention is a conscious, daily, moment by moment inner experience to connect you to the highest that exists within you. As a result you WILL bring about EXACTLY what you harmonize with on all levels. This book is a wonderful tool to help you consciously bring about the best in your life from the inside out. Beautiful book,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Power of Intention (Hardcover)
I have never written a review on Amazon because, quite frankly, I have never cared enough to take the time. However, this book has changed my life and I want to tell other potential readers that this book will change theirs, too. This may sound outrageous, but Dyer's words have healed me. I cried through so many passages because I knew that blocks in my life were finally being lifted from me. I got it. And I got it in a big way. I was about to go to see a psychiatrist about a chronic mental issue. I was convinced that I absolutely needed medication to help me. I read this book and my problems have decreased in such a dramatic way... problems have been replaced by peace. It is not an easy fix-- I still struggle, but then I remember how to access intention. The difference is that before I would have struggled all night long. Now, I have the tools to go back to peace and calm immediately. I take it moment to moment and that sure beats being addicted to medication. I read some of the reviews below; while most were positive, there were surprisingly some negative ones. Some questioned Dyer's motives and claimed that he does not offer concrete ways to access intention. I cannot disagree more. I feel that his motives are pure and genuine... and why shouldn't abundance rain on a man who has helped so many? If he did not offer concrete ways to access intention, I would not feel so energized and healed. Buy the book, borrow it from a friend. Whatever you can do to get your hands on this book, do it. It will change your life.

Dyer is venturing into the zone of the invisible and untestable,
This review is from: The Power of Intention (Hardcover)
This is not the typical book on intention; it doesn't tell you to state your intention and then focus with dogged determination on getting what you want so that your will be done. Instead, Dyer equates intention with the Source of all creation, with God, with the Divine invisible force that exists within and beyond us; a force that he says we can learn to attract to us in order to play a role in creation itself.
Says Dyer, "You must learn to be like the energy that allowed you to be in the first place...You were intended out of love, you must be love in order to intend." This book is a gift for the soul, a treatise on living in accord with the laws of the universe, which he calls the faces of intention: creativity, kindness, love, beauty, expansion, unlimited abundance and receptivity to all. Dyer says, "Intention is the silent partner who's accessible at any moment we choose," explaining that the only way you deactivate this guiding, co-creative energy is by believing that you're separate from it. Dyer is a wonderful storyteller, bringing you to tears and laughter to anchor his ideas. He has a contagious enthusiasm for sharing his recent insights about intention, their relationship to free will, and our connection to all living beings. The Power of Intention is a practical guide for those who believe that we are spiritual beings in physical form, and who want to learn how to re-connect to the source of our Divine nature, making life on earth the fullest possible experience of love, beauty, kindness and abundance.

Sure, there are some people who may rag on this book and try to point out some inconcistencies or flaws, and I hope it makes them feel good to be so sharp. I really do. I'll be the first to admit that self-help type books can have the tendency to be too "out there" or touchy-feely, or whatever -- if you've read a few you'll know what I'm talking about. This one was different for me though. What I really liked about this book is the way it asks you to just look at things differently. And although I havent seen it mentioned, what I've come to recognize is that the underlying theme of the book is to look at life from a perspective of love and patience. Sounds corny I know, but if a person can be emotionally mature enough to realize that love, acceptance, friendship, (and all that good stuff) are important elements of our happiness then they are on the right path. And if some of those things you desire are lacking in your life, its not like you cant create them. Duh, everything you want is obviously out there. You just have to look at things differently, which in turn will probably make you act on situations differently, which in turn will probably help you to fulfill your desires. The greatest complement I can give this book is that it has helped turn me from a competitive, ego driven snob into a more charismatic, interesting, better person. Really. And I aint even done yet.

A book that I'll want to revisit often; you will too!,

Loved THE POWER OF INTENTION by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer . . . I'm not sure how he does it, but every time that Dr. Dyer comes out with a new work, he gets me to look at life differently . . . and I come away with countless idea that I want to not only implement personally, but to share with others. The book's subtitle perhaps says it all: Learning to Co-create According to Dr. Dyer, "Intention is a force in the universe, and For example, here's one after the first chapter (dealing with Act as if anything you desire is already here. Most Helpful Book on the Subject,

This review is from: The Power of Intention (Hardcover)
I have read many books on the power of creating your own reality, but I like this one the best. I do the meditations every day, and they make such a tangible difference in my life. I had lesions on my legs that wouldn't heal for months. I'd meditate every morning on healing them, and at night they would be noticably improved until they were healed. I have used the meditation to heal myself emotionally of extreme sadness and other strong emotions, I have used it to bring more financial opportunities into my life. After meditating, everything seems right, my problems seem to resolve themselves. This book is pleasing to read, as is all Dr. Dyer's material. I think of him as the father I never had.

Awesome Reprint!,
This review is from: The Power of Intention: Learning to Co-create Your World Your Way (Paperback)
I have to say I got pretty excited when I found about about this book. I had
highlighted and underlined my old copy to pieces. So I rush out to pick it up and I have to say, I am throughly impressed with the quality of the layout and the graphic additions & presentation made in this version. It's simply a pleasure to read. As for the content, I believe that for people who already posses some understanding about the metaphysical nature of our universe this book is a Godsend and can be a real life changer. (if you don't, read something by Ester and Jerry hicks - Abraham, or Louise hay. I also highly recommend anyone implementing these principles to watch his PBS of the same name if you can get your hands on it. It will help you integrate the ideas more deeply. One thing I can say is this book will not appeal to everyone, however for those who read this book "get it" - it's a truly awesome system for making your life work and attracting everything you want.

The Epitome of the Mixed Bag,
This review is from: The Power of Intention (Hardcover)
I'm so torn between the love and the hate I feel for Dr. Wayne's newest release! Although Dr. Dyer once again packs the pages with his sagacious nuggets of wisdom, I was left feeling lied to; almost cheated. I guess I should be used to this with Wayne Dyer by now. Every single book gets going on the right track. It brings up issues and emotions which many don't often contemplate or even begin to resolve without a little coercion. The books are easy to get pulled into as Wayne has a friendly way of communicating through the written word, but as I gets deeper into the text I feel as though my mind is telling me I must lay this book to rest. I feel as though I'm being forced into this overly cozy world of oversimplication. I feel as though this source he keeps referring to is always kept vague. I feel as though we are being told to be connected and content in a world where injustice and greed seem to be increasing; in a world where the environment which Wayne Dyer can enjoy in Maui, thanks to his sheltering wealth, is being otherwise largely disregarded at the expense of our "connection". This is not a time to encourage feeling connected despite what is going on around us. Rather, we must fight to stay connected in this fragile moment in history. However, I love the energy Wayne brings to the book. Sometimes it is nice to see somebody at least attempt to see everything in life through a positive spectrum. Yet, I think the good Dr. knows this world brings pain along with bliss, yet he seems to conveniently ignore this reality. Dr. Wayne has admittedly has his own struggles with cocained and discontent; which is certainly pardonable and understandable; yet you'd think a man with such a tumultuous life would offer a greater balance. You'd think he would try to meet people where he would have met himself in his darkest hour. I know this review may come off as harsh. I don't intend for it to be so. Everybody needs hope and encouragement, and Dr. Dyer can certainly deliver. Whether this hope and encouragement in far too naive and overly-simplistic, I leave that for the reader to decide. Remember to watch Wayne Dyer on PBS during pledge months. Maybe you'd want to watch his program before you buy the book! That way you can know if you want to invest 18 dollars on the book! |
