5.0 out of 5 stars A great resource for small and mid-size nonprofits, June 23, 2010
This review is from: The Power of Legacy and Planned Gifts: How Nonprofits and Donors Work Together to Change the World (Kim Klein's Fundraising Series) (Paperback)
Kevin truly understands the perspective and issues(e.g. limited in-house staffing)faced by small and mid-size nonprofits. I love his emphasis on making legacy gifts a part of the culture or DNA of your nonprofit. I am already using the book in my own consulting practice, and wholeheartedly recommend it to nonprofit board members, leadership and staff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Non-Profits, June 7, 2010

I met Kevin at the NW Regional Land Trust Alliance conference in Walla Walla, Wa in May, 2010. I attended a seminar based on his book, and bought the book on the spot. Since then I've bought 5 more copies because other members of my board keep absconding with mine. This book is a wonderful guide on how to maximize the potential of legacy gifts to fund your non-profit's work.

I haven't yet finished the book, but I'm planning to order additional copies for my staff and board. This is a well-written, straightforward, extremely helpful book that demystifies bequests, legacy and planned gifts for small to medium-sized organizations. I highly recommend it to any not-for-profit executive who is thinking they must get around to putting a planned giving program in place....but assumes it's going to mean hiring additional, highly skilled staff.

This book was recommended to me by a collegue. I have found the contents of the book to be insightful into the world of Planned Giving. Kevin covers subjects from "A to Z" in language that is easy to understand. I heartily recommend this book to people especially those who are new or just entering this sector of fundraising.

This review is from: The Power of Legacy and Planned Gifts: How Nonprofits and Donors Work Together to Change the World (Kim Klein's Fundraising Series) (Paperback)
Kevin has written a wonderful book to help the vast majority of non-profit organizations - those who have people who love them but are focused on the annual fund to support themselves. He presents a clear understanding of how to help these non-profits look at themselves and their work in new ways, and to engage their donors in the discussion - resulting in more and longer-term sustainable funding.

Much of the literature in the field of gift planning or planned giving is targeted to the sophisticated practitioner working with very wealthy individuals and large institutions. While these are good works, they are relevant to a relative minority of the non-profit organizations.

This book provides a framework for understanding how to re-think an organization's approach to its individual supporters, allowing them to truly be partners in changing the world. I have worked in the sector for 25 years, and am grateful that Kevin took the time to write this book - one that will help groups that I see every day struggling with these issues. I heartily recommend it, and use it in my consulting and teaching efforts in the San Jose and San Diego areas.
