I purchased the 'Power for Life' Bible, Crystal Cathedral for a lot less in price if I would have ordered it from the Crystal Cathedral. It's a true 'Power' Bible with very positive verses which is an inspiration and a Blessing. I thank the Schuller's for such a great version.
I do enjoy watching 'The Hour of Power' weekly on TV where the verses are read from this Bible.

At the time of this writing the now famous Crystal Cathedral has been sold to the Catholic Church. The future of the ministry is uncertain. A couple of years before this event, the Schuller's suffered an acrimonious separation, as the younger son, Robert A. Schuller was asked to resign from the pastorate. The ministry seemed to unravel at amazing speed.

This was original television church. Borrowing and expanding on the positive theology of Norman Vincent Peale, Robert H. Schuller built a church from humble beginnings, starting on a tar paper roof of a local drive in theater. The Crystal Cathedral is one of the most beautiful buildings you'll ever see. But the church's style of evangelism was dwarfed by churches like Saddleback and the Church on The Way. Both have been more aggressive preaching the Gospel and staying more in touch with trends and young people. And without the younger and more vibrant Robert A. Schuller in the pulpit, the church would rely on Schuller the elder along with a stable of revolving guest preachers. Thus destroying the identity of the church.

In 2008, prior to all of the drama, the Cathedral came out with one of the nicest Bibles you'll ever lay your hands on. Crafted in beautiful genuine burgundy leather with gold gilding, this Bible contains detailed book introductions, insightful articles, power points for living, red highlighting for positive verses, red lettering for the words of Jesus, and an overall layout that is modern, fresh and relevant. The "power people" articles are very informative and connect you with Biblical characters in a meaningful, usable way. Just holding this Bible is special. The translation itself is the fresh and readable "today's new international version". The font is large enough to read, yet not so big that it makes the Bible too big. The size of the Book reminds me of what a preacher would carry to the pulpit.

And since the ministry at Crystal Cathedral has faltered, this wonderful Bible is now a bargain book. The one I received was new in the box and the box was marked $49.99. I paid $13.99 with free shipping for mine. The leather binding alone is worth more than that. Even if you were never inspired by the Schullers, this Bible will inspire you. I pray that the Schullers will reconcile and make a comeback. In the meantime, you can seek out their last best effort to make the Gospel positive and inspiring.
