This review is from: The Power of a Man: Using Your Influence as a Man of Character (Paperback)
"The Power of a Man" is an easy to read book on what it means to be a man. In our day and age, we are constantly being bombarded by what it means to be a man. These messages are sometimes more confusing then helpful. What Rick Johnson is able to do in this book, is clear away the misconceptions and help men understand genuine manliness; not only to understand but to be proud of being a man. However, it also puts men to the task of taking responsibility for their actions. When men understand who they are, they no longer can excuse their poor decisions. Instead they have to take responsibility for the role and place that they are intended for as men.
A wake-up call for men everywhere, this book will change your life. I recommend this not only for men but also women who have lost focus with what the image of a man is supposed to look like. There is a generation of men and women who mistake manliness to mean oversexualized, physically abusive, unemployed, and undependable. Let Rick Johnson lead you through a journey of what it means to be a true man of character. You might just be amazed!

Hits the points about being a man today,
This review is from: The Power of a Man: Using Your Influence as a Man of Character (Paperback)
This book truly nails it! There is something missing in today's society about being a man. The book unearths some of those missing elements, which all resides within all men. These are God-given traits!
It is an easy read, with some relevant examples that I believe every man can identify with. I went over this with a group of men at my church, and we were able to find common ground on what it means to be a man in today's world, and the importance we carry for the future of mankind. We realized that we had more impact than we realized.

I have to say that this is a great book that really touches all the areas that men need to address in todays world. Rick writes in such a way that he draws you in and really makes you reflect on where you stand on the issues. Bold so you get the point but in a way that lets you know that all fathers go through the same difficulties. His openess about his life lets you see that he truly has first hand knowledge of the topics. I really believe that all fathers and husbands should read this book. You will come away refreshed.

This review is from: The Power of a Man: Using Your Influence as a Man of Character (Paperback)
I started this book on a short flight last week. I finished it on the way back - couldn't put it down. I was so moved to action, I text'd my son while in flight! (And it went through!!!) Johnson reminded me of the major tenets in his first book, Better Dads, Stronger Sons (also a must read if you're raising a young man). He calls us to self inspection. "Power" adds layers of coaching/reminders/encouragement for all man in all areas of life that are interested in doing their best. The exhortation for us to have deliberate plans to make the most out of ourselves come across warmly and simply. I've already given my copy to my eighteen year old son. I could not have come up with a better way to say the things than he has. You have to read this book!

A must-read for every man,

This review is from: The Power of a Man: Using Your Influence as a Man of Character (Paperback)
The Power of a Man is a great book. Every man hits a point in his life when he askes himself, "just what is a man, and how should he act?" This book hits the nail on the head regarding the most frustrating issues men face. Rick Johnson is not only a "man's man", he's laid out in plain English how every man can be a blessing to those around him.

must read for all men,
This review is from: Power of a Man, The: Using Your Influence as a Man of Character (Paperback)
I almost did not pick this book while shopping, well am glad I did cos it became my top pick that day. I stuck to it till i finished it,and carried it everywhere. I found it clear in message and presentation. Rick excellently presented the journey to manhood & hit on important components of being a man that is forgotten or misinterpreted. It is an inspiring guide to becoming real Man of honor as we were made to be! I highly recommend this book...

We are using this book as a men's Bible study and find it a little short on scripture references. The author has a good way of using movie titles to bring his message across. Would recommend it as a reading book.

THE POWER OF A MAN by RICK JOHNSON,
By Christopher J. McCombs (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Power of a Man, The: Using Your Influence as a Man of Character (Paperback)
The Power of a Man is a much needed book for our culture which is in great need of the power of a man. This is a must read for every man striving to be what God intended them to be in life.
A positive note about the Author. I serve as the Chaplain of a NCAA football team. The past year I taught the team about AUTHENTIC MANHOOD based on the Bible. Then I discovered this book. I was so touched by the content of this book that I truly believe God laid it on my heart to put a copy of this book into every players hands. I contacted Rick not knowing what he would do or how he would respond. He immediately got a sponsor and sent the books to me to get into the hands of the players. What an awesome experience. I can only hope that the young men that read this book on the football team will live by the Godly principles found in the "POWER OF A MAN." If they do so, there is hope for this next generation of men to turn our culture around for good. Pastor Chris McCombs Broadman Baptist Church

I wish I had read this book 40 years ago before I married or had children. My generation of men has been so beaten down by the popular media, TV, and culture. This has not been healthy for the family. Rick speaks to the man's heart but also relates well to women who desperately want a man who'll get off the couch and stand for his family. He has a way of being supportive of men who recognize themselves as deficient. Highly recommended. This book has motivated me to get more involved in my family, church, and community.

Too Soft to be Masculine,

This review is from: Power of a Man, The: Using Your Influence as a Man of Character (Paperback)
I've read two books this last year on characteristics of a masculine, godly man and neither one had any substance. This book was quite descriptive of our culture and the lack to true masculinity, I already understood that part. I didn't need a book to remind me of how men fail everyday. I was looking for a book that was more prescriptive of the kind of masculinity that was truly masculine. Instead, I got a book of fluff, bunch of soft stories and no real depth. The only positive from this book was his list of The Magnificent Seven (positive traits of a masculine man) and the list of The Dirty (Half) Dozen (negative traits of a man). I will take those list and do my own study for I couldn't stand his writing all. Reading this book was like he knew about the qualities of a masculine man, but had no experience living them with any depth.
