Well worth the money! POWERFUL fun too!, October 21, 2002
This review is from: Power Mandalas (Paperback)
I am awed by the designs in this book. Each design comes with a short meditation as well as a description of what it is for exactly (such as crown chakra or power) and a suggested coloring sequence (but rules are meant to be broken, the author is the 1st to say). One design to a page so they are suitable for framing--if you don't mind having fewer designs to use & color, but I believe there are 42 or 46, plenty! These are HIGH quality, super powerful designs meant to get the reader out of one's head, and body for that matter. While coloring, I transcended all concepts of time. I suffer from chronic pain and almost immediately upon starting the 1st design, my pain faded away until I no longer even felt the discomfort of sitting in a chair.
This particular book has a design for each chakra, one for power, energy, 2 for healing and so on. A few are bewitching to the eye just to look at in B & W! The concept is to color from the outside in to focus inward and concentrate, or color from the inside out to open oneself up and expand one's awareness outside of self.
This book is well worth the price and I hope it is just the first in a long series of such books by this author. WARNING: Coloring mandalas can be addicting--in a healthy way :-) Especially using TomBow(R) brush markers (they are like a paintbrush in a pen, with a fine-line marker on one end and a TRUE, high quality brush tip on the other, colors FLOW like an extension of the soul...). Enjoy.

Seriously consider other products - here's why..., June 29, 2008
This review is from: Power Mandalas (Paperback)
I read a LOT of reveiws before deciding to spend the $9.99 on this product and I'm disappointed for the following reasons:
(1) many of the designs are so small that even my set of professional art markers can't fit inside the lines
(2) the black lines the form the designs are often broken or fragmented
(3) the "helpful hints" offered in the margins are very simplistic and don't inspire me... and I AM very open to inspiration!
(4) several designs are extremely simplistic (one big circle with a swirl in it, a page of tiny shapes so small that I cannot color them)
(5) I was hoping (and of course this is just my OPINION, so it does not apply to all buyers) for more geometric intricacy - the many mandalas comprised of the shapes of human bodies and heads turn me off
(6) the price is high compared to other products that offer more artistic potential
OK - I give the comments above from the perspective of someone who's seeking some fascinating designs that can be worked with a decent set of markers (that do have fine tips). Any benefit that I dervied from the "powerfulness" of the mandalas would have been an added bonus for me, but not the primary reason I chose this product. Turns out I couldn't feel any inspiration because I was too disappointed with the tiny, tiny elements in the designs that couldn't be colored, or the humanoid shapes that form the mandalas.
Another review mentioned the high quality of the pages. The pages are of good quality and they're one-sided, so you don't ruin a design on the other side (nothing's there) if you're using markers as I am. However, I have several other coloring design books by Dover which I paid $3.95 for and am more pleased with despire initial scepticism. I'm having a MUCH better time, and producing FAR more artistic designs with a $3.95 mandala book by Alberta Hutchinson. That book does have designs on both sides of the page so I am sacrificing one side when I color with markers. This could be avoided by photocopying the designs and coloring on the photocopy, but I'm so thrilled by the designs in that book that I have been coloring away all weekend - and I will order ANOTHER Alberta Hutchinson book so I can color more of the designs.
I would feel better about this product if it too had cost $3.95 as so many adult coloring books do. Perhaps others will derive more spiritual uplift from this book than I did, and that will override the numbered issues I raised at the beginning of the review.
I'm going to keep searching...

nice info, April 4, 2007
This review is from: Power Mandalas (Paperback)
I have been mostly pleased with this book. The quality of the paper is good - not the newsprint type that some books have. The designs are on one side of the paper. There are explinations of each mandala and colour suggestions. My only complaint is that some of the designs are very simplistic
