Product Description

Dust off your spandex mask and get ready to kick some butt with POWER MOVE PRO WRESTLING. Based on the popular Japanese game, TOUKON RESTUDEN, this 3D brawler features all of the excitement of pro wrestling, with all-new characters. Choose from 12 different brawlers (including the powerful Agent Orange and an ex-police officer from the Middle East, called the Egyptian Conniption) as you try out more than 50 real-life wrestling maneuvers. Each character, of course, has unique special moves some of which are devastating. All of the basic wrestling rules are in effect, with each match being settled by either a three-count pin or a disqualification. In order to get the pin, you'll first have to drain your opponent's energy to zero. Modes of play include One- and Two-Player matches, 12-Man Gauntlet, Championship, and PPW League. The massive 12-Man Gauntlet mode challenges you to defeat 12 wrestlers in succession, with no rest in between matches. PPW League lets you invest in a point-based season, in which the goal is to move up through the ranks. The game features four different wrestling venues, four different ring designs, two cool camera angles, and a wide variety of options not to mention all of the hidden treats.

3.0 out of 5 stars An interesting relic, October 30, 2010

This review is from: Power Move Pro Wrestling (Playstation) (Video Game)
Power Move Pro Wrestling is essentially an Americanized version of the Japanese game Touken Retsuden. In Japan, Touken Retsuden had an All Japan Pro Wrestling license, but that was removed for the American version as, really, only the hardcore fans would know the AJPW roster. Those fans had probably imported Touken Retsuden already and wouldn't be interested in an American AJPW version. For its time, PMPW was a great wrestling game. The Touken Retsuden engine later went on to be used in the American Smackdown series. At the time Touken Retsuden came out, I felt it was probably the second best wrestling series, with only the Fire Pro Wrestling series ahead of it. This is definitely a game you should get if you want to get a feeling of where wrestling games where in the mid to late 90s. If you've ever played Smackdown or any of the original Touken Retsuden games, you'll be able to play this right away. It isn't exactly the same control-wise as Smackdown, but it's fairly close.

Power Move Pro never did very well in America, and I'm guessing that's because people didn't want to play a game where the wrestlers weren't immediately recognizable. Too bad, really, it was a great game back then. It doesn't hold up so well as compared to wrestling games in 2010, but it was definitely awesome in the 90s.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent game...not as good as others, April 18, 2000

This game is fun to play for about the first week..after that you begin to be angered by the lack of character selection and moves that you can use. It is an English version of a Japanese Wrestling game, which would explain the use of some moves that are very rarely used in America. I would reccomend this game for a cheap thrill for a little while. But, beyond that..the game is nothing special. Go out and get a copy of Smackdown or any Japanese Import.
