I was pleasantly surprised with this book. After reading 100+ networking books, what more could Sheila add? Here are my top three:

Return Every Call and Email - I have a REAL hot button on this one. Always treat the janitor the same as the CEO. It's a very small world. And as Sheila states, "it's the right thing to do."

Business Clubs - Absolutely! I am a member of the House of Blues Foundation Room and The Stirling Club. Never seen this mentioned in a networking book. Want to run with the big dogs? Show up where they run.

Community Service - Most people just want it on their resume. Very disappointing. Do it because it's the right thing to do.

Appearance - Completely agree with Sheila! There is no second chance for first impressions.

Mobile Phones - Love here comments on how unprofessional it is to walk into a room with a PDA attached to your ear. When I host private events, my first comment is "silence your phones - if it rings while I'm talking you are 86ed from the next event."

Highly recommended!

If you were looking for more Savar, the Power of Networking is in print now. Sheila leaps off the page in her true upbeat conversational workshop style. This entrepreneur takes us through the strategy of networking and dismisses the myth that just showing up can accomplish your goals. In sharing her personal collection of experiences and tools she seeks to benefit the timid networker but provides tools and tips that can refresh the more experienced networker. If you are looking to attain something in your personal or professional life, having a strategy to network can get you there. Perhaps you are showing up and not achieving your goals - Sheila provides a variety of approaches to tackle any event as well as a process to assess and categorize the information gathered. A quick read will put you on the path of creating your own personal brand and style that will set you apart from the crowd.

I found Sheila Savar's book on The Power of Networking to be extremely informative, with very practical advice on how to develop a network that can be both professionally and personally rewarding. I also found Ms. Savar's writing style to be very user friendly, with excellent networking strategies provided throughout the book that can be quickly and easily implemented to improve professional and personal growth opportunities. I highly recommend this book.
