If you liked Tolkein or C.S. Lewis you'll love these as well! Get the prequel as well: The Shadow at Evening

A bit of a disappointment,

First I would like to say to anyone who really liked this book, don't get offended. I just have to say that 'The Power of the Night' was a bit disappointing after reading 'A Shadow at Evening'.
I don't know enat it lacked, but it definately lacked something. When I read the first one, I was living it, in fact I couldn't but it down. But I struggled to finish the second one. I hope that Walley writes a third book that has the same power of the first one. I gave it three stars because I just couldn't get into it. But it is still worth reading.

As good as the first book,
This review is from: The Power of the Night (The Lamb among the Stars) (Paperback)
Farholme is now isolated from the rest of the Made Worlds. The Gate to the Assembly and Ancient Earth has been destroyed. It will now take forty years for a message from the Assembly to reach them, fifty years for a ship to arrive. Merral Stefan D'Avanos is Comander of Farholme's military, something they never needed before. Merral's greatest task may very well be convincing his fellow citizens that they need a military or a police force. It's difficult for them to understand that the threat is real. But their world has been invaded by evil. People are changing, values and morals are being discarded. Pride, fear, jealousy, things unheard of in Farholme are now apparent.
The more I read about Farholme the more I recognize our own world. Evil is real and Chris Walley has done a great job of showing it's effect on ordinary people living ordinary lives. The Power of the Night is book two in the continuing saga of the citizens of Farholme. Fast paced, with lots of action, strange creatures, and herioic characters, it's a great second book in The Lamb Among the Stars series.

Great story......if you like fantasy.....you will love this book.
Personally I think the theology is a bit off......but that does not detract from the story. Chris Walley is a master at his craft! I am looking forward to more from his pen.

Authors should take notes from Chris Walley,
This review is from: The Power of the Night (The Lamb among the Stars) (Paperback)
Chris Walley has brilliantly crafted a fully realized futuristic sci-fi / fantasy epic for young people and adults. The well thought out characters, compelling situations, and sweeping landscapes will keep the reader immersed, excited, and thoughtfully challenged. Regardless of individual background, an inspiring story of good and evil and the difficult decisions, sacrifices, and mistakes made in times of trouble will be richly revealed with each passing page. With the battle for hearts and minds in our own culture, both on an internal and external level, Mr. Walley's imagined world resonates provokingly with our own changing world. There is much to keep coming back to in "The Lamb Among the Stars" series, and readers will doubtless be reflective after finishing each book, as well as excited to find out what happens next! In a genre where there just doesn't seem enough of this type of literature, more from the imagination of this fresh, new author is anxiously awaited!

The Power of the Night Review,
By Whiteravyn (Queensland, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Power of the Night (The Lamb among the Stars) (Paperback)
I was going to put the blurb of the book up here, but there are some pretty major plot spoilers on it for those who haven't read the first one, so I'd rather not ruin it for them.
'The Power of the Night' was, I'm very reluctant to say, a bit of a let down after the brilliance of the first book, 'A Shadow at Evening'. 'The Power of the Night' was good, mind you; it was just missing something that the first one had and I'm not sure how to name. It might have been because the events centering around Anya and Merral didn't seem very realistic, or that Merral seemed a bit dull when talking to the Envoy after the author has shown him to be a sharp-minded man capable of understanding fairly quickly (considering the newness concepts) and making snap life-dependant decisions. I did feel a little let down by this book, but I still found it interesting and somewhat enjoyable. Although the main theme of this book seemed to centre around Merral - more characterisation, though Walley's characterisation is generally good - I felt that he did that just as well in the first book, where much more was there to hold my interest and keep me in suspense. I must sound like I was REALLY disappointed in this book, but I wasn't THAT disappointed. Having read his first one, though, I believe this author to be capable of better, and that's from where I think my main objections come. I do recommend this book. It was intriguing and exciting in its own way as the first one wasn't - so that's a point in its favour. The battles were good and learning more about the creatures was worth reading this, as well as seeing how the people of Farholme were dealing with their great tragedy as a whole, not to mention that insidious taint that is affecting EVERYONE'S thinking. Three stars, because while it was good and worth reading, I believe it could have been better. Cheers!

a little confused,

I was given this book and The Shadow at Evening for Christmas quite a few years ago. They said they were #1 & #2 of a series. I only just now got around to reading them and loved them. When I went online to see if there was another in the series, I got quite confused as all the names were different. I searched around a bit and found that these books had been combined into one (Interesting as each book was rather long by itself--I'm sure a lot of stuff was left out), and 2 more books written. I also wanted to comment on someone's comment that this book is unsuitable for children as it contains nudity. I don't remember any such thing and do think children would like it if they liked sci-fi.

The Journey Grows Deeper,

This review is from: The Power of the Night (The Lamb among the Stars) (Paperback)
The first book was awesome. I was wondering how the sequel would be, and this book does not disappoint. Even better than the first one, The cast of characters expands and the array of enemies widens to quite an impressive amount of unique creatures. Take my word for it, Walley breaks the mold of boring cliched science fiction and offers a thrilling new experience full of intrigue and suspense. This is well worth reading!
Only one problem, this book does contain nudity in it, which is a necessary part of the plot, but I would discourage youger readers from reading this book. ~SI +==}=========*

The Power of the Night is a winner!,

I read both Shadow in the Evening and The Power of the Night to my grade 5 class at Richmond Christian School. They loved it and couldn't wait for what must be coming... the 3rd book?? I love the premise of 12000 years of Peace, the creeping in of evil. What a concept! What a thrilling battle scene! What deep truth is woven in the telling of the tale! I had non-readers going to amazon.ca and ordering the book because they couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen.
