Power of Nine (featuring very special guest Diana Krall) is the latest and most ambitious effort by Anthony Wilson. Anthony, who has been playing full time with Diana Krall for the last 3-4 years, is increasingly regarded as one of the most talented guitarist-composer-arrangers working in jazz today. This album, following his two Groove Note releases (Our Gang and Savivity), will surely build on that reputation. With a program of original tunes and rewarding arrangements, influences ranging from Gil Evans and Charlie Mingus all the way to Weather Report and John McLaughlin, and the brilliant and deeply moving performance by Diana Krall of the tune Looking Back (written and arranged by one of her mentors, the legendary Jimmy Rowles).

I bought it after reading the five-page review (of the actual recording session) in the May 2006 issue of Stereophile. Listening to it again after just two days, it's already one of my all-time favorites, right up there with Maria Schneider. One lovely track (out of 12) by Diana Krall. Anthony Wilson is a genius. If you miss this one, it's your loss.
