5.0 out of 5 stars Izrael's Latest Album is a Must Have!
Israel Houghton's latest venture is quite refreshing. From start to finish, this is an exciting and powerful album full of dynamic music, energized vocals, and inspirational lyrics. This contemporary album is relevant to not just young people, but ALL people around the globe.

3.0 out of 5 stars It was nice... but you come to expect more from Israel.
Don't get me wrong "The Power of One" was a good album. But that all it was... good. After listening to hit after hit from Israel, common fans have grown accustomed to listening to the genuine raw praise & worship that Israel delivered in his previous albums. If you are a regular Israel listener you may be dissappointed with this album. Its sub-par compared to his other...

5.0 out of 5 stars Izrael's Latest Album is a Must Have!, March 25, 2009
This review is from: The Power of One (Audio CD)
Israel Houghton's latest venture is quite refreshing. From start to finish, this is an exciting and powerful album full of dynamic music, energized vocals, and inspirational lyrics. This contemporary album is relevant to not just young people, but ALL people around the globe.

"The Power of One" doesn't stray from its Christian roots as it mixes (very well) with varying musical styles and artists Chevelle Franklyn, Mary Mary, Martin Smith (of "Delirious?"), and tobyMac. Each song carries its own weight and together each song blends seamlessly.

There is something for everyone on this album:

After the short introduction (in a child's voice) on "My Name Iz", Israel gets it going with 'get up and sing' songs "Everywhere That I Go" and "Just Wanna Say". You may find yourself swaying to the Jamaican-vibe on "Surely Goodness" and you just can't sit still when listening to songs like "U R Loved", "You Found Me", and "Saved By Grace". The uplifting "Better to Believe" is a funky, feel good song that sets out to encourage.

"Moving Forward" is an anthem in its own right and "I Receive" is a simple, yet moving worship song. "Every Prayer" is a soul-stirring composition and songs like "The Power of One (Change the World)" and "Sing Redemption's Song" come straight from the heart. "My Tribute Medley" nicely wraps up the album giving honor to God.

I pray God continues to do great things through Izrael ;-).
Oh, by the way, the bonus track "Others" is a real treat and was worth pre-ordering on iTunes :P.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! A Revolutionary Game Changer of an Album!, March 24, 2009
This review is from: The Power of One (Audio CD)
Wow! I am not sure that I have ever posted a review of an album in the many years that I have been buying stuff from Amazon.com, but "The Power of One" by Israel Houghton is a GAME-CHANGER!

Listen, the quality of the music on here is unmatched and I think you can get a feel for that for yourself by listening to the samples, but that's not what I want to emphasize!

These songs are REVOLUTIONARY songs for the time that we live in. They are designed to spark a fire inside of people (one by one) so that they can understand that the God inside of them will empower them to CHANGE THE WORLD!

Our church is already using the title track and we will be using it again at a major outreach effort in a week or so because it is really connecting with the hearts of real people! Buy this...you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars He does it yet again, March 25, 2009
This review is from: The Power of One (Audio CD)
I am in awe with this cd.It seems each and every cd he comes out with just keeps getting better and better.Israel Houghton is almost unlike any christian artist in the game because not only is the music AMAZING and keeps you on the edge of your seat, but it is so annointed.I promise you will not be disappointed with this album. The song "Moving Forward" is sure to be a proclimation for todays church at whole, also "Just wanna say" is a song we will all be singing."Everywhere that I go" is very catchy and easy to learn to teach your praise band. Also, If your a fan you also need to read his book titled "A deeper level". It will change your mindset of what worship is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!!!, May 24, 2009
This review is from: The Power of One (Audio CD)
I don't write many reviews on Amazon but I rely heavily on the ones written here before I purchase anything. I've been an Israel Houghton fan since his CD Real. His new CD - The Power Of One is an outstanding CD. The thing about this is that you can't put Israel in a box. He is a worship leader in every sense of the word. I keep one or two CD's of his in my CD changer at all times. I listen to this cd and I am in awe of what the Holy Spirit has produced through this man. Each cut builds on the previous one and the musicians, especially the drummers on this cd leave me with my mouth hanging open.

Do yourself a favor and purchase this CD. It will be one that brings you enjoyment for years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, April 12, 2009
This review is from: The Power Of One (MP3 Download)
The best album I have bought in years. Great musicianship and song writing comes though in songs that seem to be influenced by a mix of Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock and world influences. Not as much a religious pop album as it is more Christian soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "new" breed for Israel Houghton, April 7, 2009
This review is from: The Power of One (Audio CD)
GREAT! GREAT! GREAT CD. Diverse, eclectic, good qualtiy, well written, excellent sounding music! This is by far my favorite Israel project. Before this I was a fan, but not a big fan of Israel's. But this project is some what different from his previous projects. I am a big fan of Tommy Simms (one of the producers) so I hear his "touch" on the CD. Israel took some chances on this CD and they paid off (IMO). I can't stop playing "sing redemption's song".

4.0 out of 5 stars Missing "ONE" song!, April 2, 2009

I fell in love with Israel & New Breed because they were the first group that I remember making music that couldn't be classified as "Christian" vs. "Gospel" or "White" vs. "Black" music. It was simply "KINGDOM MUSIC", and it was sung in predominantly black and white churches! Their worship in particular just was undignified and they seemed to quite simply cry out to worship God through song. With this CD being a Israel Houghton "solo" project I didn't know what to expect. In particular because I was not impressed at all with "Real" - his first solo project.

"The Power of One" is NOT the typical Israel & New Breed, so if you're looking for that then this album "may" dissappoint you. It has enough great quality songs that it is DEFINITELY worth supporting. I can't see anything Israel does not being quality... I think he saw this solo album as a chance to do something different. As I said before in my review of "A Deeper Level", I can't get with the "Rock" sounding songs on here like "U R Loved", "I Receive", "Sing Redemption's Song" & "You Found Me". That's just TOO far away from the Israel & New Breed style I know and love, its not what he's know for or what has made him so succesful...can't get with it - sorry! (Please don't be carnal - I know its Christ that's made him a success) Great lyrics, great content, I just don't like the SOUND!

"Everywhere That I Go" is tight and sounds like vintage "Israel & New Breed" praise & worship...its the kind of song I thought the album would be filled with.

I'm feeling "Just Wanna Say", its different and has that "Rock" style and flow to it, but its mixed with the Israel & New Breed Sound we all know and love so its easier to adapt to. It feels like Tye & G.A.'s "So Amazing"!

"Surely Goodness" is a tight song...I really like the change of style, he really did a good job implementing that Jamaican feel in the song.

I "LOVE" the "Moving Forward" versions on Free Chapel's CD, and Hezekiah Walker's, but I don't like the way Israel began this song. It sounds too much like a ballad...but he jazzes it up in the end and I like it. THIS SONG IS INCREDIBLE OVERALL, I mean people you really have to listen to this song, it is a tremendous blessing to the Body of Christ. I introduced this song to bring in the New Year and my church family has fallen in love with it...P&W leaders/teams should really add this to their roster of music.

"Every Prayer" is really the closest you get (along w/Moving Forward and the medley at the end) to a worship song! I LOVE the song...no problems with it at all but my thing is this. When was the last time you saw an album with no VINTAGE WORSHIP SONG from Israel??? I mean "You've Won My Affection" on New Season, "Here I Am To Worship" on Another Level, "To Worship You I Live" on Live in South Africa, & "If Not For Your Grace" on A Deeper Level...where is the "ONE" song from Israel that just captures your heart and ushers you into the presence of God?!?!?! Maybe it was meant to be "Moving Forward" - but frankly I like the previous 2 already released versions better than the one on this album. Israel is the only one that does an inversion at the end - WHICH I LOVE, but overall it just isn't as good as the previous versions.

Overall...I like the album and I'm glad I bought it, but I just miss the Israel & New Breed sound I've become accustomed to. I encourage you to support Israel's ministry - you'll be blessed, just don't go expecting Israel "And New Breed".

5.0 out of 5 stars Are you sleeping on this album? WAKE UP!, March 16, 2010
This review is from: The Power of One (Audio CD)
I am so happy to see an album like this come out! Finally a blending of contemporary christian music and gospel within the same CD! All the tracks are stellar...particularly Just Wanna Say, You Found Me, and Moving Forward...nice to hear the different guests, but the messages in the songs are strong as well. STOP SLEEPING AND CHECK THIS OUT!

Israel is without a doubt one of the most anointed, talented, and gifted Christian artist today. CD is powerful, fun to listen, evokes passion and reflection to do God's will and believe in HIS Power and the power he has given each of us to transform our minds and hearts. Awesome!!
