Perimenopause from A to Z!,
This review is from: The Power of Perimenopause: A Woman's Guide to Physical and Emotional Health During the Transitional Decade (Paperback)
Stephanie Bender's best selling book The Power of Perimenopause is a concise, extensive and very reader friendly guide to perimenopause. As the editor and creator of HotFlash! the perimenopause/menopause web site and online support group, I have interviewed Ms. Bender. Her enthusiasm and knowledge about women and perimenopause is amazing. Ms. Bender combines both common sense and the best of science to present us with a wonderful guide book to navigate the often turbulent times of perimenopause. I highly recommend her book in my online support group and for any woman going through or preparing for perimenopause. It's a great idea to have the man in your life read the book with you too : ).

I have done a great deal of research into perimenopause and this book is the most clearly written and informative book I have found. It nicely balances the most up-to-date traditional medical ideas with a realistic view of nutritional, natural and alternative possiblities. I learned more about hormone cycles, perimenopause symptoms, recommended tests and treatment alternatives from this book than any other source. If you even think that you may be going through the preliminary stages of menopause and want to understand what is happening to your body, buy this book.

Benders' book was a God Send. When my wife was first going through her hormonal turmoil I sought out and e-mailed Ms. Bender. Her kind words and insight prompted me to purchase a copy of her book. It was filled with tremendous insight and helped me not only to be a better husband but more supportive of the transition my wife was and continues to go through. This book should be considered the "Bible" for all supportive husbands and manditory reading for all couples who go through a Pre-marital course prior to getting marriage. Her insight and direction is in plain and understandable words and highlights the varied journey a woman will go through prior to her menopausal transition. Thank you Stephanie from my family. Every page of The Power of Perimenopause is a gift. Perimenopause was a confusing and often trying time for me. No-one prepared me for the emotional and physical rollercoaster I would be on during those critical years before "the change." I was often frightened or worried that something was wrong with me. This book clarified it all. It is beautifully written, and compelling to read. Even the science is accessible and easy to grasp. I came away from reading The Power of Perimenopause with a whole new understanding about my body. I truly felt empowered by the information in this book and all of the options it offers a woman for a healthy, happy life.

OK, but where's the beef?,

This review is from: The Power of Perimenopause: A Woman's Guide to Physical and Emotional Health During the Transitional Decade (Paperback)
Filled with stories of patients, fan mail from readers, and self-serving descriptions of dialogs with women. The text is poorly organized so it is difficult to find and research specific symptoms. The answer to most symptoms, such as insomnia, are herbal remedies which may or may not work, depending on the woman. There is a discussion of hrt, but you can learn more reading the latest issue of Ladies Home Journal, or some other woman's magazine. The book was disappointing on several levels, but if you like to commiserate with other women (and their spouses) going thru this life cycle - and who doesn't? - then this book may make you feel better.

To begin, with I am going through perimenapause myself. I found her book to be very insightful to every aspect of a woman's life during this period. Stephanie writes with such understanding, wisdom and knowledge that I find myself sharing her book with everyone whom I feel would benefit, even people I barely know. It is similar to teenage years when you don't think anyone understands or is going through the same things you are, then you find out that someone does understand and has been there and done that and has suggestions to help you through it. You don't feel so alone. With Stephanie's book you know there's hope for a brighter today and tomorrow.I am looking forward to her next release.

This review is from: The Power of Perimenopause : A Woman's Guide to Physical and Emotional Health During Perimenopause (Hardcover)
After hearing a very helpful lecture on perimenopause (especially the time period of several years BEFORE menopause), this book was recommended. It presents a good, down to earth explanation of some very complex issues, many of which are poorly understood by many health professional (of which I am one). I actually bought this book for my wife who had been diagnosed with anemia, depression, and stress. After following the advise in the book, I am a MUCH happier husband, and my wife is feeling healthy again. She understands what her body is going through and how to handle it. What else could you want?

I didn't find this book to be very helpful at all. I've since found others that were much better. Keep looking.
