Engineered for Performance, Value and Extreme Reliability

POWER PET electronic pet doors are motor driven and fully-automatic, opening completely under their own power. The motorized translucent door panel is made of super-strength, bulletproof, military-grade resin. It won’t break, crack or discolor, even in extreme heat and cold.

Activated by a tiny waterproof ultrasonic collar (included), the airtight panel quickly and quietly powers upward, disappearing into the stylish housing. This method of automating pet doors is unique in the market, as most electronic doors simply unlock a hinged panel, allowing the pet to push through a flap.

Only POWER PET doors use a patented directional ultrasonic sensing system. This system has great advantages over magnetic or radio transmitter collars. Magnetic collars have a very limited range making it difficult to train the pet to operate the door. Radio systems have good range but open whenever the animal is within that range, even if the pet is sitting, sleeping or just wandering by.

POWER PET’s directional ultrasonic system overcomes these problems. The ultrasonic collar emits a highly directional signal, which is received by the microphone only when your pet is directly facing the door opening. The unit is not likely to trigger if your pet is just wandering by.

Airtight and Secure

Motorizing the panel and causing it to move up and down allows it to be mounted in hermetically sealed grooves for absolutely air-tight closure, resulting in the best insulated pet door made. In fact, POWER PET doors insulate better than the best dual-flap pet doors, protecting against extreme cold and windy conditions. Mounting the rigid panel in grooves also makes it impossible for an intruder to kick it in. There's one, and only one way that the panel can be opened; it must slide upward. An auto-locking steel deadbolt makes that impossible without engaging the motor.

Built for Safety

POWER PET doors are intrinsically safe. They use an electric motor and cable drive to lift the door panel. The panel remains open until the pet collar signal is gone, indicating that your pet is clear of the opening. When the collar signal is gone, power to the motor is turned off and the panel is returned by the force of gravity only. Downward speed is reduced by an electronic brake applied to the reverse motion of the motor. This brake operates with or without electrical power. Because the panel is returned by simple gravity, the maximum force that can be applied by the panel when it is closing is limited to its own weight, about 2 pounds.

As an added safety feature, the door also has a sensing system that automatically raises the panel should it encounter an obstruction on the way down. This feature can be defeated in the unusual case that binding or other restriction slows the door closure to the point that it unnecessarily retracts.

Advanced Electronic Controls

A full set of controls and indicators give you maximum control over the door's operation.

  • Buttons control on, off or manual operation.
  • Dual range controls allow the setting of independent inside and outside activation distances.
  • Individual activation buttons for the inside and outside sensors give you a 4-way access control system. You can allow your pet to come in but not go out, go out but not come in, come in and out or close and lock the door altogether.

AC or Optional Battery Power

POWER PET doors may be operated in three different power modes:

1. 110 volt AC wall outlet: POWER PET doors come standard with a UL approved AC adapter. Plug the adapter into a nearby wall outlet for continuous operation. With dual jacks, the cord can be connected to either the left or right side of the door.

2. AC with battery backup: You may purchase an optional rechargeable battery for use along with your AC adapter. If your household electricity should ever fail, your POWER PET door will automatically switch over to battery operation. When power is restored, the AC adapter will automatically recharge your battery.

3. Full battery operation: You may also operate your POWER PET door with the battery only. This eliminates the need for the AC adapter or any electrical power connection. However, you will need to recharge the battery periodically (recharge interval varies depending upon use). In this case, we recommend that you purchase the optional charger kit with 2 backup batteries. With two batteries, you can use one in your POWER PET door and keep the other in the charger. When your door battery runs low, just swap.

Multiple Sizes and Installation Options

POWER PET doors are available in two sizes: Medium for pets up to 30 pounds (8-1/4"W x 10"H opening), and Large for pets up to 100 pounds (12-1/4"W x 16"H opening).

Standard Doors for Wall or Door Installation
POWER PET doors mount flush to any door or wall. The most challenging part of installing the POWER PET door is cutting the hole.

If the unit is to be mounted in a door up to 1-3/4 inches thick, there is no framing necessary. The included outer frame provides a finished look to the opening.

If you are installing your POWER PET door in a wall, it is advisable to build a frame around the opening or order the optional wall adapter tunnel.

Sliding Glass Patio Door Inserts

Pre-assembled sliding glass patio door inserts are made of high quality aluminum and tempered glass and coated with an industrial quality powder coat finish. They fit easily into a sliding glass patio door track, featuring a special spring loaded top section for quick, perfect installation.

The patio door slides shut against the insert and may be locked with the security locking bolt. Weatherstripping is included. Three height ranges are available: Regular, Extra Tall, and Shorty. Each has a 2-1/2 inch adjustment range to allow for a perfect fit with most sliding glass patio doors. The entire installation process typically takes less than an hour. The only tools required are a drill with a 1/8" and a 1/4" bit, and a Philips screwdriver.

Product Description

Engineered for performance, design, value and extreme reliability, Power Pet doors are motor driven and activated by a tiny ultrasonic collar. Other electronic pet doors merely unlock a hinged panel, requiring your pet to push it open. That's something that a lot of pets don't like to do. Patented Power Pet doors open completely under their own power. They feature a translucent door panel made of a new super-strength, bulletproof resin. When your pet approaches, the air-tight panel quickly and quietly powers upward, disappearing into the stylish housing. Because the panel moves up and down and does not swing out, it can be mounted in hermetically sealed grooves for air-tight closure. This mounting arrangement makes it impossible for an intruder to kick it out. An automatic dead-bolt locking feature adds a higher level of security to your home. The result is the most secure pet door against intruders and stray animals. Your pets are empowered to come and go as they please. Their animal friends are politely asked to stay out. Power Pet doors are completely wind and weather-proof with an air-tight sealing system. Power Pet's directional sensing system is pretty amazing as well. The digitally coded signal emitted from your pet's ultrasonic transmitter collar allows the Power Pet to work almost like magic, opening only when your pet is on a direct approach. 4-Way access control lets you select from In Only, Out Only, Full Access or Closed and Locked. Dual range controls let you set independent inside and outside activation distances. Panel size: 8-1/4 by 10-inch for cats and dogs up to 30-pound. Operates on AC adapter (included). Optional backup battery (model B12V-1.3) snaps into the battery compartment to keep your Power Pet door functioning in the case of a power outage, or if you prefer to operate solely on battery power. Door is also operated by Humane Contain RX-10 multi-function collar for X-10 dog fence system.

I'm happy to hear that others are having good luck with this product. Unfortunately, our experience has not been quite as positive.

First, I was a bit disappointed at the construction. For this price point I would have expected something other than flimsy plastic.

Second, within a month of buying the door the retractable plastic piece started randomly going up and down. I called their customer service department to inquire. The rep described it as a known issue. The solution was to disable the auto-retract safety feature. I asked when a permanent fix was forthcoming and she told me that disabling the safety feature WAS the fix. Baffled, I asked if she thought that was a good solution. She told me I could return the product for a refund if I wanted to (after having cut a hole in the side of my house) in that pseudo-polite, passive-aggressive manner that makes me want to rub broken glass in my eyes. I hope that she was simply someone who needs to be fired rather than a typical representation of the company.

Third, as others have noted, the collar and "fob" are extraordinarily flimsy. My standard poodle destroyed hers within a few weeks. Compared to other dogs, she is very gentle so I was surprised when it just fell apart. I was able to click it back together a few times and get it working, but this last time I saw some sort of yellow-ish corrosive looking goo inside it. My wife called their customer service and they are sending a replacement. Meanwhile, the poor dog is very confused. :)

Fourth, the fob is NOT directional. We have fought with sensitivity settings until we are cross-eyed and whenever the dog is close to the door, it opens.

Had we paid $50 or $75 for this product I wouldn't have even bothered with this review. But, at ~$400.00 (including wall extension, extra batteries, shipping, etc) I am fairly disappointed.

I hope others find this helpful.

I have owned this door for over a year. On one hand, it's the best possible purchase for a home like ours with three small dogs. It has saved me from having to wake up in the wee hours of the morning to let the dogs out. More importantly, it has saved our floors since the dogs let themselves out and back in while we're at work. I thought it would take the dogs a few days to learn how to use it, but freedom must have been calling, because they picked it up in less than an hour. So, the family and the dogs are happy, for the most part.

On the other hand, you have to buy lots of spare parts for this door because it breaks on a regular basis. The motor stopped working on mine within the first year. Luckily, it was under warranty and the company sent us a new motor. During the time that we waited for the new motor (which was back ordered), we had to place a board over the hole in the door. A few months later, the sensors in the door shorted out. We had to order new sensors at our expense, and I had to pay for expedited shipping because the family and dogs are use to the dogs having their freedom, and it's difficult when the door isn't working. For what this door costs, I would have liked to get at least two years of use out of it without having to replace parts.

I've seen numerous complaints about the collar sensors, but I have not had a problem with those. Yes, they come apart very easily. My advice is to buy some black electrical tape and wrap it around the sensor housing a few times. Works wonders in holding it together.

Pros:
Keeps any animals other than yours OUT.
Can set to only let pets just in or just out.
Cool guillotine style door movement.
3 months of heavy use and no problems so far.
3 pets and none had problems getting used to the door.
Install was easy.

Cons:
Collar adapter is pretty big. Also, prone to water damage (however has not happened to any of mine yet)
A little noisy but not too bad.
Like just about everything now days, made in China and feels a little cheaply made.
If your pet decides to use it as an open window to the world, they can sit in front of it all day and the motor will hold it open. There is no open door time out or delay before next open. It seems this could lead to motor burn out if you do not teach your pets to not sit in front of it. Once I watched as my dog sat in front of it, she looked left, the door closed. Looked forward, it opened. looked right, closed. And so on.

I wish there were more programming options and unique collar IDs so you could only let certain pets in or out. It would also be great if they got with the times and created a micro version of their collar adapters.

We purchased this door because our cat wanted to defend its territory. We also had 3 dogs, a 90+-pound Lab mix, an 80+-pound Lab mix and a Sheltie. The door installed easily, and the dogs learned to use it within minutes. We had visiting dogs (2 more large Lab mixes) and they learned to use the door as quickly. Our only problem was with the collars, until I used small cable ties to keep the case together. Since that time not problems with losing the case top and inside electronics, we had had the door about three years. Recently a problem developed with the mechanism, it did not respond at all unless someone struck a blow on the door adjacent to the pet door. Checking with the manufactures web site indicated this failure require a replacement of the main circuit board. The manufacturer will rebuild the door for about half the cost of a replacement with a new door and provide a new warranty. Shipping time is the only consideration in all this, leaving the door non-functioning whether ordering parts, a new door or refurbishing the old door. We have had excellent success with the door for several years, and in spite of the current problem, I would recommend this door to everyone.

I do however want to warn potential buyers of a specific vendor "Better Life 24/7" that is a non-responsive vendor. I was told to expect my door no later than October 21st. On October 24th I queried the vendor and did not receive any response from my inquiry. I know that vendors have little control over the USPS or UPS/FedEx services, but a simple acknowledgement of my email to them (thru Amazon)would have been nice. I can not recommend anyone purchase anything from "Better Life 24/7".

It is now November 8th, I have yet to hear anything from "Better Life 24/7". I have the greatest respect for Amazon, they filed a claim for the damaged product and I received a full refund.
