4.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite April Wine Album
Two of my favorite April Wine songs are on this album: "Waiting on a Miracle" and "Enough is Enough". Both of these songs are examples of power pop songwriting at its best. Myles Goodwyn is at his best writing, singing and playing guitar on the album. Other songs like the power ballad "What if We Fall In Love" and the double entendre...

2.0 out of 5 stars Here's Where The Wine Starts To Go Bad...
What happened? "First Glance" gave us a fresh taste of a more aggressive April Wine, "Harder...Faster" improved on that formula, and "Nature Of The Beast" was the best vintage of Wine yet. 5.0 out of 5 stars If you want true april wine, March 17, 2000

This review is from: Power Play (Audio CD)
If you want the essential april wine you have to have nature ofthe beast - bar none the 80est sounding pop metal band. This albumwas the coolest back in 1981 and 82 when it first came out power play is a distant second compared to nature of the beast. This is the album that defines april wine END

Awesome. I have to admit that I didn't find April Wine until last year, but I am glad I did. This is a great album, (can't help but pump my fist to 'Blood Money'). The price, honestly, was undervalued. It was in perfect condition, contained the original LP sleeve, no flicks or pops, not a single skip or slip. Even got here faster than I thought would.

5.0 out of 5 stars First Song Is Doubled? For What Reason?, November 18, 2008
This review is from: Power Play (Audio CD)
I hate it when record companies put the same song on a CD twice (unless one is a demo or LIVE version) but back to back? Regardless this was my first vynyl album of April Wine. My brother had "Nature of the Beast" and that one had some cool cuts but this one rocked. I worked at a record store as a clerk and played the hell outta this one. "If You See Kay" was my favorite because it was a double entendre meaning and yet a love song of sorts. ;) Regardless the other cuts off this CD rock too. April Wine with three guitar players just rocked! Three dudes up there trading licks all night long was cool as all get out! Loved it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Here's Where The Wine Starts To Go Bad..., July 24, 2006
This review is from: Power Play (Audio CD)
What happened? "First Glance" gave us a fresh taste of a more aggressive April Wine, "Harder...Faster" improved on that formula, and "Nature Of The Beast" was the best vintage of Wine yet. "Power Play" not only knocked the momentum out of April Wine's upward growth, it disappointed a lot of their fan base. For a band that once declared "I Like To Rock," the performances here suggest otherwise. "Enough Is Enough," the first single, is a nice attempt to regain some radio airplay, but after that, the album is littered with unmemorable tunes. In addition to the band's tepid performance on "Power Play," Goodwyn sounds like he's run out of ideas lyrically, to the point where the band's second single, "If You See Kay" gained more notority from what the title sounded like (say it real fast) instead of the song itself. And that's sad, because April Wine was on their way to becoming more successful than they turned out to be. This album was the reason they never got there.

Track#3, "If You See Kay", is one helluva piece of work. Probably the best song ever written.

5.0 out of 5 stars As good as Nature of the Beast!, September 6, 2004

Sadly April Wine's follow up to The Nature of the Beast, 1982's Power Play is only available as an important. I believe that by 1986 Power Play hadn't even gone gold, but I dont' see why it wouldn't have sold as much as The Nature of The Beast, other than Capitol records lack of promotion. Anyway, Anything YOu Want, and Enough is Enough(the hit single)open the album. Followed by If You See Kay. The quality of the songs is out of this world, I just can't believe that the album bombed. This is much better than a lot of that crap out there today. It's such a crime that this is only available as an important. Capitol should reissue this and make a two for one with The Nature of the Beast album.

2.0 out of 5 stars Two good tracks, two medium, rest - filler, January 11, 2005

This was definitely a disappointment for the fans - after two really good records they got this piece of ... hmm ... vinyl. "Anything You Got..." is great fast number. "If You See Kay" is original and very entertaining - an attentive listener will surely immediately notice the naughty wordplay but even without it the song is catchy and extremely listenable. But that's where the fun stops. "Enough is Enough" is decent rocker and "Waiting on a Miracle" is more or less OK but the rest is pretty uninspired.
