Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Still bursting with enthusiasm at 92, Peale ( The Power of Positive Thinking, LJ 10/1/52) agains jumps on the bandwagon of the you-can-do-it-if-you-think-you-can approach. Here Peale strings together dozens of personal success stories ("success" is always materialistic) that make readers feel good. Believing (in yourself, others, values, God) is all-important, and the stories of wealthy business executives who made it on their own grab center stage. Peale even takes credit for the healing approaches of Norman Cousins and Bernie Siegel by claiming that their ideas were his all along. The writing and editing are careless; in one chapter Peale presents 11 components of the Happiness Mix, but only six are listed in the chapter summary. There's too much name-dropping, e.g., "philosopher A.B. Zu Tavern" (who's he?). Peale devotees will love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Living Positively!, December 2, 2003
By
Dr. Peale tells us positive living still works. This book reinforces the theme of his ministry. He encourages us to think positively and act accordingly. Practice beleiving on a regular basis, we're told. He identifies two "get it done twins" as being patience and perseverance as he adds, "an achiever is a believer."

Another familiar theme he stresses is "we become what we think."
This book helps you to focus on the type of thoughts that will cause you to become the individual you want to be.

This is an uplifting book written from a Christian point of view. The teachings in this book are easily applied to real life. This book will help you to deal with the obnoxious people and irritating events in your life.

3.0 out of 5 stars Summary of works, March 10, 2004
By
I have read a couple of Peale's works and this one seems like more of a summary than anything else. Don't get me wrong, it still purveys a powerful message of how positive living can change your life and others, but at the same time I see a lot of repetition of previously told stories from other books he wrote. This also uses a lot of "name dropping" which I find unecessary and boring. All in all still a very good read, but I would recommend one of his earlier works instead, perhaps "Enthusiasm makes the difference". One thing to remember this change if you choose to make it will not occur over night, but will take time...so don't despair.
