5.0 out of 5 stars Living Positively!
Dr. Peale tells us positive living still works. This book reinforces the theme of his ministry. He encourages us to think positively and act accordingly. Practice beleiving on a regular basis, we're told. He identifies two "get it done twins" as being patience and perseverance as he adds, "an achiever is a believer."

Another familiar theme he stresses is "we become what...

3.0 out of 5 stars Summary of works
I have read a couple of Peale's works and this one seems like more of a summary than anything else. Don't get me wrong, it still purveys a powerful message of how positive living can change your life and others, but at the same time I see a lot of repetition of previously told stories from other books he wrote. This also uses a lot of "name dropping" which I...

Don't get me wrong, it still purveys a powerful message of how positive living can change your life and others, but at the same time I see a lot of repetition of previously told stories from other books he wrote. This also uses a lot of "name dropping" which I find unecessary and boring. All in all still a very good read, but I would recommend one of his earlier works instead, perhaps "Enthusiasm makes the difference". One thing to remember this change if you choose to make it will not occur over night, but will take time...so don't despair.

5.0 out of 5 stars Behind the Darkest Clouds the Sun is Shining, February 21, 2008
This review is from: The Power of Positive Living (Paperback)
Joy for successful living can be found in the pages of The Power of Positive Living. Peale states that "to every disadvantage there may be and usually is a corresponding advantage" and goes on to describe emotional addictions of the worst kind: sadness, chaos; feeling that we are not good enough. KNOCK the "T" of CAN'T, says Peale; strive to do better because you can. Through prayer (thinking in its highest form) we can achieve inner peace, serenity, joy, excitement. An achiever is a believer. Also recommended: Helping Clients Forgive: An Empirical Guide for Resolving Anger and Restoring Hope

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like POZ thinking, you'll love this book!, March 9, 2011

This review is from: The Power of Positive Living (Paperback)
While Norman Vincent Peale's original Power of Positive thinking is great, this book holds it own. The stories are fantastic examples of the principles being applied and the dramatic changes they make in countless lives. It's all founded on faith in the power of Jesus and the truth of the Word of God. Amazing to read tale after tale of the lives of people who were lost, burned out, hurt by others, even some hurt by the church or angry with God, then after speaking with Norman or reading the other book, find themselves coming back to the truth and experiencing just how much God still loves them and desires to help them live a free, peaceful, productive, joy-filled life, regardless of their circumstances and quite often changing them for the better. It could also be called the power of a life yielded to God. Very inspiring and encouraging. Thank you again, Norman Vincent Peale. Talk about an amazing life!

4.0 out of 5 stars Practical, common sense thinking, February 28, 2008
By

This review is from: The Power of Positive Living (Paperback)
This book has a religious basis, though I believe its principles are useful to anyone regardless of his religious beliefs or lack of belief. The book talks about having confidence and persistence toward achieving a valued goal, pursuing the means toward that goal ethically, and trying every ethical alternative to achieve that goal. The book talks about God, but there are many definitions and conceptions of God, other than Christian. The book talks about the Bible and its stories and there are many ways to interpret the Bible other than literally. The point is this to me: Peale's advice is common sense and practical for those looking to improve their attitude and approach to life whether they are traditionally religious or not. Browse through the book and decide for yourself. It's well written and an easy read.
