Go For The Original!
You can't do better than reading Spurgeon's works in the original writings. Any time that is spent searching for a word that has been dropped from 'common' usuage, will be repaid with a better understanding of this marvellous writer's relationship with the Lord. I have read this at least 5 times, and look forward to reading it again, periodically, because it is excellent.
I have ordered multiple copies, to give away at our Christian church, for the same reason. "Give thanks to God in everything, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you", 1 Thess. 5:18. "Always give thanks to God for everything, in the name of Jesus", Ephesians 5:20. Praising God in and for everything is part of God's highest will and pleasure for us. Praise is the language of heaven, as we know from the Bible (Revelation, and throughout the Bible). This is one of about 25-30 classics which I have read these multiple times, because God, through His wonderful Holy Spirit, teaches me more great, inspiring things about Him and His love and goodness, each time I read it. He is called the 'Prince of Preachers' because of his ability to communicate the gospel in a way that reaches men and women from every walk of life. I know that this is true... I own the entire Metropolitan Pulpit Library, and I wouldn't part with a page of it for any amount of money! |
