5.0 out of 5 stars A book to get you through the day
Like the book says, If your child is 3 or 33 this book is so inspirational. Everyday when I read a chapter it speaks volumes to me regarding my child. My children are in their 20's and 30's.I wish I had had this book when my children were first born. The prayers at the end of each chapter are exactly what is on my heart. I highly recommend this book. I have ordered...

2.0 out of 5 stars Love Stormie, but disappointed in this book
I've read it several times to try to get something more from this, but it's really hard. Easy reading, but it just doesn't click like most of her books have. A ton of very short chapters with fewer "examples" and life stories than most. Her books usually feel like you're having a chat with her over coffee; this one is more like reading a choppy lecture. I love her books,...

5.0 out of 5 stars great help, August 17, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I just had my 2nd baby 3 months ago. My life as a stay home mom has been so stressful, chasing a toddler and caring for an infant. Plus, marital problems, which is now getting better. Thanks to prayers and counseling. The start of healing for my marital problems is that my husband and I agreed to have every Friday night our prayer night for our children using this book as a guide. I'm also reading The Power of a Praying Wife during my quite time (my baby "bjorned" mesmerized by her acrobatic older sister in the backyard) while I'm sipping by afternoon coffee and praying.

I had some clue on how to pray since I grew up as church goer, but I didn't have any clue on how to really have a conversation with God. I think cause I didn't have a good relationship with my dad -- he was an absentee dad (blaming work). In my heart, there are so many things I want to chit chat about with God, but I just didn't know how. We learn our ABCs in school, English 101 in college and all that stuff, but communication with God... it's a skill I definitely need to improve. This book is wonderful. It's a blessing. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical Parenting, June 11, 2009
This review is from: The Power of a Praying® Parent (Power of Praying) (Paperback)
I have read this book many times as my child was growing up. It never occured to me to read it again when the trials of life came at age 18. It truly changed the way I prayed and helped me to realize that. even when I felt so out of control, the Holy Spirit was guiding my parenting. Thanks Stormie

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't affort not to pray for your children!, May 26, 2009
I have used this book for a dozen years to pray for my children and now my new grandchild. God's faithfulness can be seen in so many answers to each prayer offered up on their behalf. Stormie has put my heart into words that I can use as a guide as I pray for my children.

Because she has seen so many prayers answered that we prayed for her, my daughter's faith is very strong. She is now using Power of a Praying Parent to pray for her daughter, adding, next to mine, her own dates and circumstances surrounding her prayers and God's faithful answers.

I even use it as a guide to pray for children other than my own. This book now is my standard gift to new parents.

The Power of a Praying® Parent Deluxe Edition
They say there isn't a manual for raising our kids. However, I believe this book should be handed out as you leave the hospital with your newborn! I have learned so much from reading and re-reading this book over the past few years. It is practical and easy to read. I believe in the power of prayer but wasn't always sure how to do it. This book touches on all the important aspects of a childs life. Like Stormie says, "we can't leave our kids lives to chance..."

4.0 out of 5 stars Knowledge of God's Word is POWER!, August 24, 2008
The Power of a Praying Parent - A Book of Prayers by Stormie Omartian is an excellent tool for all parents to have. I purchased the book to give to a couple that was expecting a new baby. A gift for the baby would have been good, but this book was better to assist and keep the parents motivated to pray.

Parents are not perfect and no one can ever have too much information. That is why no matter how much you read the bible, attend church, and watch christian television...it is always good to have something new, fresh, and scriptual to keep you on your toes along this parental journey.

The book contains prayers that concern various areas of parenting. A scripture is paired with each prayer. A space for your personal prayer notes is also included. The prayers, scriptures, and personal notes can be used to encourage yourself and others as needed for a lifetime.

A great book to supplement this book with is "Single Parent Support - A Collection of Inspirational Scriptures" on Amazon.

I give this book 4 stars and highly recommend it for all parents. Parents come in all fashions (married, single, widowed, grandparents, god-parents, foster parents, teachers, aunts, uncles, adoptive, etc.). So get this book and be encouraged.

This book was actually a gift from me to a friend. I pray this book every month since I purchased it in 2001. I recommend parents praying for their children from conception anyway. So, don't waste time, get the book and begin PRAYING. God Bless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Parents, by all means, get this book and read it. Start praying for your children intentionally., November 15, 2011

I have read several books on parenting and have preached many sermons on Biblical parenting. I am the parent of four, including two teens. Lately, I have been feeling more and more dependent on the Lord than ever when it comes to being a parent. I wished I would have felt this way when they were toddlers and would have read this book and prayed more faithfully and intentionally for my children.

This book gives you 30 different ways in which you can pray for your child, including praying for their protection from danger, praying they feel loved, praying for their salvation, praying they resist rebellion, praying for their personal relationships with siblings, praying for godly friends for them, praying for health, praying for them academically, praying they find and develop gifts and talents, praying for their purity, praying for their joy, praying they avoid addictions, and praying for them to find God's choice in a perfect mate. There are other topics besides these.

Each topic includes Scripture verses for you to claim as you pray and sample prayers for you to word however you see fit. The sample prayers give you something to begin with and then, you can use your own words to express your heart to God.

I used to pray very generally for my children, but now, I am praying more specifically and claiming the promises in God's Word as I do. I am spending more time than ever praying and believe God will continue to make me the parent He intended for me to be.

I am going to recommend that all parents in our church read this book and begin praying specifically for their children. I am convinced that is the only hope for them in the midst of this culture they are growing up in. As parents, we can have hope for the future of our children, as we commit to praying for them as this book instructs.
