I just had my 2nd baby 3 months ago. My life as a stay home mom has been so stressful, chasing a toddler and caring for an infant. Plus, marital problems, which is now getting better. Thanks to prayers and counseling. The start of healing for my marital problems is that my husband and I agreed to have every Friday night our prayer night for our children using this book as a guide. I'm also reading The Power of a Praying Wife during my quite time (my baby "bjorned" mesmerized by her acrobatic older sister in the backyard) while I'm sipping by afternoon coffee and praying.

I had some clue on how to pray since I grew up as church goer, but I didn't have any clue on how to really have a conversation with God. I think cause I didn't have a good relationship with my dad -- he was an absentee dad (blaming work). In my heart, there are so many things I want to chit chat about with God, but I just didn't know how. We learn our ABCs in school, English 101 in college and all that stuff, but communication with God... it's a skill I definitely need to improve. This book is wonderful. It's a blessing. I highly recommend this book.

I have read this book many times as my child was growing up. It never occured to me to read it again when the trials of life came at age 18. It truly changed the way I prayed and helped me to realize that. even when I felt so out of control, the Holy Spirit was guiding my parenting. Thanks Stormie

My husband and I went through this book with another couple and after the first two weeks our book discussions became more of a weekly rant of how ridiculous her theology was. We stuck it out to the faithful end, but the author lost us when she began indicating we can control every aspect of our child's life through prayer and, conversely, parents who encounter tragedy, or other troublesome event involving their children, were simply not praying enough. She actually related a story of two children involved in a vehicular accident - one survived, the other did not - and she literally said, "Imagine what would have happened if that child had had praying parents." It made me sick to my stomach.

I believe prayer has power, but I do not believe God accepts prayer as a to-do list. He does not take orders from us. In addition, our prayers, however powerful, still do not counteract the free will given to each of our children. They may choose to ignore the promptings from God, no matter how hard we pray.

Please do yourself a favor and skip this one.

I have read several books on parenting and have preached many sermons on Biblical parenting. I am the parent of four, including two teens. Lately, I have been feeling more and more dependent on the Lord than ever when it comes to being a parent. I wished I would have felt this way when they were toddlers and would have read this book and prayed more faithfully and intentionally for my children.

This book gives you 30 different ways in which you can pray for your child, including praying for their protection from danger, praying they feel loved, praying for their salvation, praying they resist rebellion, praying for their personal relationships with siblings, praying for godly friends for them, praying for health, praying for them academically, praying they find and develop gifts and talents, praying for their purity, praying for their joy, praying they avoid addictions, and praying for them to find God's choice in a perfect mate. There are other topics besides these.

Each topic includes Scripture verses for you to claim as you pray and sample prayers for you to word however you see fit. The sample prayers give you something to begin with and then, you can use your own words to express your heart to God.

I used to pray very generally for my children, but now, I am praying more specifically and claiming the promises in God's Word as I do. I am spending more time than ever praying and believe God will continue to make me the parent He intended for me to be.

I am going to recommend that all parents in our church read this book and begin praying specifically for their children. I am convinced that is the only hope for them in the midst of this culture they are growing up in. As parents, we can have hope for the future of our children, as we commit to praying for them as this book instructs.

I have used this book for a dozen years to pray for my children and now my new grandchild. God's faithfulness can be seen in so many answers to each prayer offered up on their behalf. Stormie has put my heart into words that I can use as a guide as I pray for my children.

Because she has seen so many prayers answered that we prayed for her, my daughter's faith is very strong. She is now using Power of a Praying Parent to pray for her daughter, adding, next to mine, her own dates and circumstances surrounding her prayers and God's faithful answers.

I even use it as a guide to pray for children other than my own. This book now is my standard gift to new parents.

I thought this book was a nice kickstart to specific prayers for your children, but, I was disappointed with the lack of depth. Many people pray for years for a specific blessing for their children and God chooses a different path for them. Our prayers are not always answered the way we want them to be. This book implies that those who do not pray the "right way" will not be blessed and that those who pray will get exactly what they ask for. Anyone who has read the Fathers of the Church and understands the teachings of Jesus would see that life very often involves us putting all of our faith in Jesus without getting the "results" we expected.
