Amazon.com Review

The trials and pressures of modern life can make the prospect of a fulfilled, meaningful marriage seem impossible. In The Power of a Praying Wife, popular Christian author and speaker Stormie Omartian pinpoints common marital struggles and reveals the miraculous way that disciplined prayer can alleviate heartache and sustain unity. According to Omartian, a marriage's success depends upon "laying down all claim to power in and of yourself, and relying on God's power to transform you, your husband, your circumstances, and your marriage." Omartian attributes the success of her own 25-year marriage to dedicated prayer for every area--however specific--of her husband's life; from his finances and his work to his integrity and his temptations. Each chapter offers insight into areas that are especially important to men, followed by "power tools" (inspiring, topical Scripture) to guide one's prayer life and transform a woman's mind with regard to her husband. This practical read will encourage women to trust God to change their spouse, and undoubtedly refocus one's perspective on God's power rather than one's own personal predicament. --Jill Heatherly --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

It has helped me so much, the prayers are almost word for word what I feel, but I just have a hard time thinking of all the things I would love to pray for my husband.

I have had this book for two months. It's a book with specific chapters for specific needs. It does not have to be read front to back. I recommend reading through the first chapter "His Wife". You think you're reading about how to "help" or even "change" your husband...you soon discover the Lord showing you things in your own life that need prayer and change! Don't you hate it when that happens? Me too. But, if you allow the Lord to speak to you through Stormie's writing and experience, you will not believe what happens! It is difficult to put into words the change that has taken place...in me. Attitudes, expectations, desires, wants, and needs, are all addressed. Biblically. I go to different chapters at different times on different days. Lately, I have been reading it along with Scripture in my personal time. I've known my husband since 7 yrs. old and have been married for 23 yrs. God is always faithful and always good. He will teach us if we take the time to listen. Married? Engaged? Hope to get married? Get this book. Then, read it. Then pray. Then apply it. God Bless.

I came across this book just in time(God's time that is). I was separated from my husband of 8yrs and had an appointment with my attourney already scheduled to file for a divorce. A friend reccomended the book and as soon as I read the first chapter, I knew I had to give it just one more chance. I wish I'd read it sooner but I probably wasn't ready to listen yet! Through this book, God gave me a whole new perspective and convinced my hard head that I needed to change, too, not just my husband. I had always prayed for our marriage, but the book outlined specific areas to pray for and included specific prayers and scriptures. I was too busy praying for what I wanted and not what God wanted. I thought that too much had happened between us for our marriage to be repaired and the only option left was divorce, even though I didn't want or believe in it. Stormie talked about some of the very issues our marriage had faced such as infidelity, financial trouble, a chronically ill child, loss of a child, mental illness, and many misunderstandings. It helped me to realize that our marriage was worth working on and that maybe God had a plan for us after all! It also helped to get my priorities straight and to build a stronger relationship with God, as well as with my husband. I thank God for moving Stormie to write this book and share this information with the rest of us struggling to make our marriages work! I reccomend this book to anyone experiencing marital difficulties as well as those who want to prevent them!

This book reallly jumps into what God intended us wives to be. If you look at marriage many years ago it was about commitment, it was about the wife being the heart of the home while her husband was the head of it. God made woman as a partner and a helper for man and Stormie really covers it in detail. Marriages need the basic principals that she lays out in order to survive.

It really goes into great detail on how you can change your marriage just by changing yourself. IF YOU ARE SELFISH NATURED then you will hate this book. This book is about giving your heart and soul over to God and changing yourself to benefit your marriage. If you are the type that "won't change until he does" then don't buy this book because you need a Bible. You have to be willing to be completely unselfish the way Jesus Christ was when he was on earth. God is not saying "let the husband walk all over his wife." Most marriages that you see that have lasted 25 years or more today have God as the center of their marriage. The divorce rate 53% today, that has to tell you something? Something is missing, and it's God. If you change yourself to be a wife after God's own heart, then through you, God will reach your husband. Giving up is not the answer.

I thank the Lord for Stormie Omartian's book, "The Power of A Praying Wife." Ever since I've received Christ three years ago, my marriage took a turn for the absolute worst. Divorce was a constant threat for the past two and a half years. (My husband hasn't come to the Lord yet.) I'm constantly in prayer for my marriage, and have been since I've been saved. About two months ago, I cried out in prayer to the Lord to please intervene in my marriage. I was at the end of my rope, and couldn't take it anymore. Within a week, the Lord led me to Stormie's book while I was grocery shopping. I was sceptical at first, but I bought it anyway. From the moment I began reading it, I knew that it was the answer to my prayers. The book gave me a renewed sense of hope and joy that there was something else I could do with God's help to bring about change in my marriage.
It was as if Stormie wrote this book specifically for me! I was going through the exact same thing she went through. I learned that we [as wives] must confess our sin to God concerning our husbands, humble ourselves before Him and let Him change us, and pray continually for our husbands, which miraculously enables us to fall in love with them all over again. In such a short time, I've seen changes in myself, my marriage, and my husband -- even though he hasn't committed his life to Christ yet. Slowly but surely, the Lord is softening my husband's heart, and enabling him to show his love for me a little bit more each day. Praise God!! Hallelujah!! Every woman who's married or thinking about getting married should get this book!
