Your reason for getting up in the morning. Every one of us needs a reason to get up in the morning. This book is about that reason. Its purpose is to help you discover the purpose for your life. Each life has a natural reason for being. Purpose is the reason a person was born. From birth to death, each of us is on a quest to discover that reason. Many never do. Yet, our world is incomplete until each one of us discovers our purpose. Purpose is that deepest dimension within us—our central core or essence—where we have a profound sense of who we are, where we came from, and where we're going. Purpose is the quality we choose to shape our lives around. Purpose is a source of energy and direction.

From AudioFile

Leider presents his theories on the need for purpose in one's life and draws upon the examples of a number of people--primarily affluent professionals--to illustrate his point. The abridgment fits together well, and Leider speaks clearly with the skill of a polished public speaker. He avoids coming across as condescending or leaving the impression that one has listened to a lesser version of a workshop presentation. Those looking for a change in their careers may find this especially useful for developing a new perspective on that search. 2.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to love this book, December 26, 2008

I was assigned this book for my first class in my MBA program. I was really looking forward to reading this book as who doesn't want purpose in their lives? However, as another reviewer commented on, he does not have a good breadth of examples. All the examples he comes up with are from either a)corporate executives who have left their position and can now afford to work at little or no pay, b)someone who has written a book and is also a life coach or c)either a family member or someone who now works for his company.

How about showing how the "average" person can find the power of purpose, especially without quitting our day jobs.

There are a few questionnaires in the book but the book doesn't truly call for much self-reflection.
