Disney Actually Did Something Right with The Power Ranger Franchise,
By The Trophy (Leesport, PA) - See all my reviews
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Power Rangers Super Legends (Video Game)
Okay, maybe that title is the older Power Ranger fan talking in me. I was 5 when MMPR premiered so as you can guess I haven't really cared too much about more recent seasons made by Disney. So when I saw this game on store shelves when it was originally released, I was excited. It did have the legendary Red Ranger, Jason,(NO, PLAY THE GAME...IT'S NOT ROCKY) on the cover...(even though I always LOVED Tommy, as the Green Ranger, more than any other ranger, this was still pretty exciting.) So I gave this game a rent and didn't get passed the 2nd level because I was thinking, "UMMM...The Super Nintendo games were better than this..."
So flash forward a couple months ago, and it's late at night, and I'm at the video store sifting through the bargin bin. I came across this game, in complete condition, for $7. I was debating if I should get this game or not, and almost left the store without it...But I thought to myself,"It wasn't great...but it wasn't that bad either..." So I picked this up and started playing through this game. I started loving this game the further I got into it. First, I don't mind 2d in a newer game...it works really well for some games (Like Castlevania), whereas 3D isn't quite right for some games (Again Castlevania). Second, this game is packed with replay value...there is little chance you are going to collect everything you are supposed to in one play through of a level. So you have to go back...which is a good thing because the levels in this game weren't a burden to play through. The levels were super fun and challenging sometimes. That's a good thing because I'd much rather have a game that sometimes seems easy but then throws some curves at you, so that you enjoy yourself, rather than have a game where it's so frustrating you want to punch your TV (DON'T DO THIS WITH A FLATSCREEN TV) or throw your controller. The game developers here knew the difference between challenging and insanely difficult. Third, the music is pretty good. Fourth, and I don't know exactly how they did it so perfectly, the developers actually packed that feeling you got when you were younger and playing Power Rangers on the playground into the gameplay here. So yeah, here I am a 23 year old man, yelling, "Eat this!" as I unleashed my charged up attack on a boss or "YEAHHHH!!!" When I'd knock a bad guy over and he'd fly into some buildings and sparks would fly. Yeah, good times indeed.Lastly, this is a great two player game...I can't emphasize that enough! Most game get cumbersome with 2 players. This one just adds to the excitement. Now I'd like to say some random things about this game...I've seen people complain that there weren't a lot of the early teams of Power Rangers in this game... the reason for this, I believe, is that most of the people on those early teams knew each other. So yeah, had there been more early teams in, you could have something like the following scenario...Red Turbo ranger says to the pink Zeo ranger..."Yeah, and this is what eventually happens...and BOOM!!! Time shifts...and that's never good. Also, if you were looking for Tommy in this game ...There is no Tommy in this game, (It would have been a cool idea) but big deal...he's in the DS version. However, having never played it though, I can't recommend or not recommend it to you. Lastly, I am not a fan of button mashing events in games...(The God of War, which is a good game in it's own right, made famous) But for the megazord battles it works fine. You would have been doing the same thing as you were doing during the ground sequences anyway if you didn't have the button mashing controls...every zord would have had the same controls...BLAH BLAH...so button mashing works here because you are doing something different and different is good. Overall, if you find this game cheap, buy it! You won't regret it and will be getting your money's worth!

I am VERY pleased with my purchase experience. Amazon came thru once again! I purchased two, PS2, Power Rangers games for my son(age 6) he was so excited to get them in the mail in excellent condition. However, he told me that this game was not as much fun as he thought it should be. Even though the games weren't a smashing hit Amazon certainly is! Thanks.

I bought this game for my 5 year old power ranger lover. He has played this game with his 7 year old brother and 9 year old sister, and they play for hours at a time. It offers just the right amount of challenge so that the game is not too easy, and my children (ages listed above) seem to enjoy playing this game.

PS2 version of a Sega Genesis Game,

This game is not at all what it should be for a PS2, it really appears to be another Sega Genesis game but for PS2! You can not maneuver all over the screen, it is not 3D just 2D which is sad for PS2. Each level is like playing the one before it, all the villians are the same, just look different and the story line videos are like comic books. You have to unlock most of the rangers (who all do the same moves). You can not play the zords, you just have to push the right buttons on your controller when prompted to fight and defend your zord. You can not make your zord do what you want. I would not recommend anyone wasting money on this. To be honest, the sega genesis version was better, you can actually move up and down the screen and play your zords the way you want.

I bought this game for my almost 5 year old son (who loves the rangers) for christmas. He likes it alot and I like the fact that it's two players so he and I can play together. The game is a little repetative with each level following the same pattern, but it's still a pretty fun game.
