Look Younger, Be Healthier, and Experience a New Kind of Energy

Sluggishness. Boredom. Lack of concentration. Too many of us pour another cup of coffee and accept fatigue as the inevitable side effect of hectic lives. Dr. Matthew Edlund shows us there is a better way. (and it's not just sleeping more!)

This groundbreaking program will rewire your body, improving your productivity, creativity, and sense of well-being. Experience the extraordinary benefits—including dramatically decreased stress and increased energy—of the four types of rest:

  • Physical: From deep breathing to the "UnNap," learn how to vanquish stress in seconds.
  • Mental: Practice key strategies of relaxed concentration, and marvel at how much more you can accomplish.
  • Social: See how even walking to lunch with a coworker creates a new sense of security and support.
  • Spiritual: Experience a connection to something greater than the self, the key to internal balance.

The Power of Rest introduces one powerful technique each day, many of which can be accomplished in a minute or less. Rediscover the feeling of being truly alert and engaged with your body, your work, and the people you love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Heathly - Look Younger, July 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Wow, what a book. I didn't know rest could do so much for me. This is a whole new way of looking at the body. Rest is an active process, according to Dr. Edlund, which we can use to relax and revive us when we're stressed, and power us up when we're exhausted. If you put different rest techniques together, you can build new brain cells, restore your body, get healthy, even look younger.

The techniques are quick. They're also easy to use. I really like some of the spiritual rest techniques, because they really relax me and get me to see the bigger picture. Combining them is even better. I like that it's best to put together active rest techniques to make the day more rhythmic, not racing through the day, but pacing the day. Using FAR (Food-Activity-Rest) is also an easy way to lose weight and get healthy.
I really recommend this book. It can change the way you live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Becoming "rest intelligent", June 22, 2010
During the years of treating clients with muscle pain, I have come to respect the need for sleep and rest in order to have healthy muscle function. But I never had a concise strategy to teach my patients, that is, until now. Dr. Matthew Edlund's newest book, The Power of Rest, is the "tool" I recommend to every one I treat because he presents a plan that is easily understood and easily put into practice. It results in helping people gain appreciation and understanding of their body's need for different types of rest: physical, mental, social and spiritual. The results become obvious to those who practice what Dr. Edlund teaches. I highly recommend everyone read this book and take 30 days to "do" a "rest makeover" with the techniques he explains, going from overloaded to rest-intelligent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helps deal with real world problems, June 19, 2010
By
As a fairly high-strung individual, I suffer frequently from anxiety and sleeplessness that both contribute to general tiredness. Dr. Edlund's book suggests straightforward and practical steps to employ different forms of rest as an antidote to the hectic demands of the modern world. The program Dr. Edlund outlines is of course not a panacea, but I have already detected considerable improvement in my general well-being by following many of his suggestions.
