An excellent technical with practical, precise instruction,
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Power Tune Alfa Romeo Twin-Cam Engines for Road & Track (Speedpro Series) (Paperback)
I found the book an excellent source of practical information. Step-by-step instructions follow every move to rebuilding a powerful and reliable Alfa Romeo engine. There are also many hints on other topics such as handling, turbocharging and brakes.

Good book for power tuning, useless for the less ambitious.,

The book explains quite a lot, but there are some areas in which the book seriously lacks. For instance it fails to identify the differences in the cylinderhead that comes from a cable or piston driven gas pedal, and it actually suggests buying a whole new engine so it is exactly like the one in the book, so you can tune it. Might be good for the cash-loaded reader, but not for the price-aware tuner.

Good detail, but weak theory,
By Jon McKibben (Santa Ana, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to Power Tune Alfa Romeo Twin-Cam Engines for Road & Track (Speedpro Series) (Paperback)
There is a lot of useful information in this book, mainly in details of engine buildup. I built an Alfa engine, and found useful tips and reminders about Alfa pecularities. But the author's comments regarding four-valve vs. two-valve engines are wrong, his theory is flawed, and there are some omissions that would have been helpful. There are no pipe diameters given, and some missing lengths on exhaust systems, for example. But the information in the book is worth the reasonable purchase cost. The binding is a bit shaky - some pages are loose in mine after little use.

Complete guide to building a performance Alfa engine,
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Power Tune Alfa Romeo Twin-Cam Engines for Road & Track (Speedpro Series) (Paperback)
The author takes the reader step-by-step through a complete engine build. Covers all steps of modification and parts selection, and includes explanations of WHY each step is done. Simple enough for an average do-it-yourself type while also providing the technical details the veteran will desire. Highly recomended for both the performance buff and the person wishing to rebuild a mostly stock engine with better reliability.
